I hate push button starts-I know

I know push button is convenient, never fiddling with your key to gain entry or start the car. But it's not ideal for runners who don't want to carry that thing.

I think whomever created push button/electronic key fobs, were not distance runners.

My current car I have to insert a key. 5-6 days per week, I park at a trail. Take my lightweight/thin cut key and put in my running shorts. I put the chunky key fob (and my house key) in the glove and lock it with the cut key. I then lock the door with the cut key, which locks them all.

Then I go run 6-7 mi w/weekends more. With lightweight running shorts, I can barely feel this key. Yes I can run with the fob too, but it's definitely more noticeable and not preferable.

If I get a Camaro, I could duplicate this process I guess by putting the fob in an Altoids box or magnetic pouch and do the same.

But then I'd have to pop off the door handle almost every day and lock with the valet key. Doing that everyday will probably break the lock cover eventually. I could always leave the lock cover off but that doesn't look too good.

Sorry for the rant, wondering if anyone else prefers a key ignition b/c of this. I know I do.

I mean there is something about a key ignition that just feels better than hitting a button. That being said the push button for me is great I carry a book bag, my tool set, and cup of coffee out to the car every day. I like putting everything in my elbow and hitting the little silver button to unlock my car and just get in with out fiddling the fob like in my 5th gen.

No, I agree with you. I honestly don't mind the push of the button. It's better than angling the key probably. It's just that u can't lock the darn doors with the key fob in the car. That's what bugs me.

It's like engineers just assumed everyone wants that on them all the time....like when running, surfing...etc.

Interesting, will have to check out that option. You do know you're losing 15 secs/mi doing that, right?

Yeah I run too but I just leave it in my pocket.

It is a pain though but I used to have a GTO and if you've never seen the key it looks like this: and the key part does NOT fold in...

So you go running without your phone?

The fab is literally the size of a obsolete (and waste of money) men's watch. There are any number of velco bands you can attach to any limb you like that can store such an item.

This sounds like a super huge stretch to simply create a non-problem.

Jaguar offers a sport band so you can leave your keys in the car.

Make some sort of wrist band for it while youre running.

And does anyone know if you can bump start a push button car? or did we lose this benefit when the button came?

If you run with a phone then you have the onstar app that can unlock your car.

Well I'm spoiled I guess. Been running since 2009 with a light little key in my pocket. I've never run with a phone even once. And I never will. My GPS watch doesn't giggle around in my pocket. Maybe I'll Velcro the fob to my forehead.
