ZL1, 2SS, or Z28

Alright, been looking at 5th gen zl1's and z28's for a while now. Finally getting ready to purchase but love the new 6th gen. Will not be an everyday driver. I know the z28 is a track car and unfortunately I don't live near a track... but the car just looks and (supposedly performs) amazing and will probably be very collectible. Also love the supercharged zl1's. Seem like they have everything I'm looking for other than the interior and the platform is just getting dated with the new 6th gens coming out. Yes, i know the z28 is even more stripped down than the zl1 but i feel that's just characteristic of the car. Now for the 2ss. Love everything about the car if only it had a little more power. Would like to hold out for the 6th gen (super) camaro but have already been waiting a few years now and don't think i can hold off any longer. Anyways I'm just having a hard time deciding between old top of the line performance and the new and fresh. What's everyone's vote/input?

I used to think like that until I saw a Gen6 in person. Gen6 all the way.

Of the 3 choices of a Gen5 I would het the Z28

I think i saw some brand new z/28's for $55 or $56K, not bad but as you stated, "it's a track car" and if you don't plan on tracking it, I would go for a ZL1 and wait for Gen6 ZL1.l

Now, thing to remember is cost - you can find a new 2015 ZL1 with deep discounts, expect to pay Mid 60's for the 6th Gen ZL1. If $$$ aint no thang - wait for the Six.

Thanks for your input bradford and denver. I'm starting to lean towards the 2ss and maybe add a blower or something. Only thing with that is it wont be quite as "special" as the other 2... I would love to wait for the 6th gen zl1 but i am a little worried about price and im getting impatient lol. I am trying to do my best to stay under 60 which i think will be right on the line with the 2017's. Unless everybody marks them up like they did the hellcats.. then i would just be SOL and go with an ss or something else anyways..

I'd go for the 6th Gen 2SS but wouldn't put a blower on it. It's an 11.5:1 compression DI NA specific design. Leave it NA. Add other mods if you want more power. I've owned two 5th Gen ZL1's. I just drove a new 2SS and its plenty fast.

The gen six is awesome, but out of those three choices and similar prices I'd take the z28 without question.

I am waiting for the zl1

But, question is, what will be are different on the 6 gen zl1 vs the ss.
The ss have all the nice upgrades. Gm must make an special beast for the next zl1. not just more hp.

It's a good question, and one I am excited to get the answer to. But, i'd say possibly:
different front fascia, different aero, wider stickier tires, Wider body (?) Performance Data Recorder, better seat options, Line lock, CC brake option, CC body panel options?

I would bet the next ZL1 or Z28 will have the LT4, different aero, better cooling and sticker tires as well. They may use steel rotors to keep costs down and maybe CC brakes as an option.

Having recently driven the Gen 6 2SS I would hold out for a 6th Gen ZL1 or Z28.

My 2012 feels so completely out dated now.

The 6th Gen Zxx will be faster and more capable than the SS and it will be more expensive.

I dont understand why anyone would pay for a ZL1 now... the new SS matches it in acceleration and doubles its fuel economy....

He new ss goes 12.3 in quarter with auto and 12.6 with manual. Zl1 11.93. Keep in mind that isn't a rolling comparison. The gap would be even higher.

Best bang for your buck by far is a zl1. Imo

I will have to agree with his assessment. The 2016 Camaro SS (manual) runs 4.3 from 0 - 60, and 12.5 in the 1/4 mile. The 2015 ZL1 runs 4.1 0 - 60 and 12.4 in the 1/4 mile. This is in the same publication. Those times are pretty close. Especially when comparing a standard V8 model to a ZL1. I don't dispute your post of 11.93 for the ZL1 but I suspect it was with mods, tires CAI, pulley etc. What will the SS do with better tires and a CAI or catback?
