Aftermarket microphone

I talk on the phone alot in the car and ever since I upgraded my headunit to a pioneer avic 5100nex which also comes with a microphone, I sound muffled when i'm on the highway. I didn't have this problem with the OEM system. My aftermarket microphone is placed in the factory spot.

Is anyone else having this problem with their aftermarket mic and where did you place your aftermarket microphone?

Any input would is appreciated!

I would like to ask a stupid question .. If you have a 2014-15, and you get an aftermarket radio and use the factory wiring, would the radio still use the built in microphone? Or is it only tied to the stock radio units and OnStar?

Asking because I'm about to install an aftermarket radio..

No the radio will not use the factory wiring for the mic. The aftermarket radio has a separate connection the factory wiring.
Yes it only tied to the stock radio and Onstar.

An aftermarket radio will not work with the factory mic, unless you splice it in to the aftermarket radio....which is not easy.

I have a 8000 NEX and I have the same problem. I upgraded my radio as soon as I recieved my car so I don't have anything to compare it too. And when I do use it, people can tell on the other line. My mic is just left of my rear view mirror.

So true. Back in 2013 I was working on that, for my old 2010 SS. I kept running into issues. Due to my job I couldn't spend much time on this. Finally gave up when I traded the car.

So, based on what your saying, even if i move my microphone to left of the rear view mirror, i will still have the same problem. By the way, I used the stock microphone for about 2 years before i upgraded, never had any problems with people hearing me on the highway or not.

Wonder if I can buy a better microphone....

I use the pioneer avic 8000nex with the pioneer mic and i've never had anyone complain to me about not being able to hear me, even with the driver window down. I have the mic sitting right at the top of the A pillar cover pointing towards me, for what it's worth
