ATI damper installation help
Hello,
I am finally getting around to installing my ATI damper and 5% pulley and was wondering how those with the A6 are keeping the engine from spinning when removing the crank bolt and torquing it back on? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance |

I put mine is 6th gear, put on the ebrake, and the engine didn't turn at all.

Last question. I've read the fan has to come out. Looking at my engine bay, there looks to be plenty of room without having to remove the fans. Can this be done without removing the fans?

Yes. I only removed the drip tray above the fans and it went off and back on without an issue.

The fans come out so easily, why fight them. Just unplug the main connector on the passenger side of the fans, unbolt the two 10mm top retaining bolts, and unclip the black plastic snap in the center. Tilt the fans slightly towards the engine and lift the assembly straight up. They are a little frustrating to work around the upper radiator hose so I always remove that too. Now, you have a mile of access to see everything clearly. It can be done with the fans in place, but it will be much easier with them removed.

I didnt find the fans anywhere near conflict when removing the OEM damper or installing the ATI. Ditto on the large breaker bar, just go to Home Depot or hardware and have them cut you a 3 inch 4 foot pipe or whatever diameter you need to get over your torque wrench. I also have a 4 1/2 section that I can sleeve over the 3 inch for heavy duty pulls, or just to saving my strength..

The old one came out and the new one went in VERY easily and I did NOT remove the fans... They are probably not hard to remove, but I didn't even need to remove them. I just used a 3 foot breaker bar to remove and a torque wrench to torque down the new ARP bolt.
