LT1 install can it be done
Hey guys I just saw this on Jegs web site and was wondering. How possible would it be to be one of the first to try to install one of these new bad boys in my Gen 5 engine bay? Jegs price $8,987.99. One thing though, I don't have electric power assist. Oh boy.

The oil cooler looks to be different, and the exhaust manifolds won't bolt up.
For power steering it's going to be a question of whether the brackets for the pump will bolt up, i'm betting they might, so power steering may not be an issue. You'll also need the engine control unit for that motor, and who knows whether it will work with the BCM also. Let me know how it goes, so that way if I blow my LS3 i'll have options, lol. On the flip side, I think I would prefer to just stick with the LS3, it doesn't have any of the cylinder deactivation or VVT. I like the follow the K.I.S.S principle.

After the initial cost of the engine, figure in at least $5k for exhaust, engine mounts, computer, cooling mods, accessory mods, etc, etc.
All for 30hp

It can be done but it won't be cheap, if I had the budget I'd get me a used one vs new.

Yeah, I don't think there's really any major benefit of the LS3 to justify the effort and expense. Unless of course you just have a lot of extra money and free time.

This is mostly a feeler though. It's where the power is at certain points in the power band that makes a difference over the LS3 not just the 30hp. But yes cylinder deactivation is a big no no for me, I forgot about that.

Exactly what I was thinking... why not just go all out with a block designed specifically for performance if you're willing to replace/convert your entire engine?
