Elite Engineering Catch Can - Hissing Noise? ??
So I've never noticed this before and it may have always been there but I really don't think so. ... so anyway I've got a hissing sound coming from the catch can, it goes away when I squeeze the inlet hose, also the outlet hose, all connections are tight, all hoses intact, emptied the can. ...it sounds like air pressure entering the inlet whistling through the brillo pad, anybody else notice something similar? Gonna email elite engineering but thought I'd throw it out here first. Appreciate the feedback as always.

Which line are you pinching, the one from the intake manifold or the one from the passenger side valve cover?

It goes away when I squeeze/compress the hose from the pcv and also the hose running to the intake manifold. It happens by occluding air flow which makes me think something is up with the pressure being too high or the can being wonky/fouled up

Mine does it also. Made a post about it in the past. People said it was normal. So I moved on.

It's normal.
If you had a vacuum leak you'd get a CEL. If you don't like the noise, then you can get stainless hoses. The catch can is a resonator. The hoses don't have any real shielding so they transmit sound. when you pinched the hose you changed the dynamics of the air flow which changes how the can (resonator) creates sound.

I have an Elite as well. I didn't notice any hissing sound with the engine running. I test it inside my garage, wonder if that makes a difference? Never got a CEL and the can has been filling up with gunk so I know it's working.

Interestingly enough, I noticed this hissing sound on my Elite catch can, 1-year to the day after the last post on this topic. The hissing sound goes away if you interrupt the air flow by pinching either of the of the rubber hoses.
Since it's an older topic, have any of the previous posting owners experienced any further issues/problems since the consensus seems to agree that I should just ignore the sound / it's not a big deal. Thanks for the reply.

The hissing is annoying. I even tried replacing the rubber hoses with emissions hard plastic tubing and it still didn't stop it. It made it a little quieter though, but I didn't like how the connections looked so I went back to the rubber hoses.
What fooled me was there are members on here that stated they had no hissing sound with their catch cans installed. Then, I come to this thread and read that most do have a hissing sound with the catch can. Oh well, I guess I had to waste $15 on some hard plastic tubing to see for myself. |
