Obituary for the Z

Guys,

I am saddened to share this obituary for a lost friend. Her life was taken at the hands of a Mustang that ran a red light in front of her.

Z Car (1985 Nissan 300ZX 2+2), 28 years of age of Kingwood, TX, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2013, due to a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of North Park Dr. and W. Lake Houston Pkwy. while, 17 years of age, also of Kingwood, TX was behind the wheel. Alex walked away from the scene without injury. Z Car was not as fortunate.

The memorial service will be held at 8:30am on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Sonic Drive In of Kingwood (on W. Lake Houston Pkwy. near scene of accident) at the Kingwood Classic Cruisers Car Club meeting. Peter (11Bee) will be officiating. Visitation will not be offered due to the nature of death and amount of disfiguration that had occurred.

Z Car was born in Sacramento, CA in 1985. Z Car called Thousand Oaks, CA home from 1985 through 1992. In May of 1992, Dawna (Wife of 11Bee) began caring for Z Car and Z Car relocated with her to Newbury Park, CA, Westlake Village, CA, Northridge, CA and they finally arrived in Kingwood, TX in January of 1996. During this time, Z Car was often lovingly referred to as “Barbie Car” or simply “Red”.

Z Car worked as a fun car for Dawna for many years until April 2011 when a complete restoration was completed, and Z Car became Alex’s daily driver. During this over 1000 hour restoration, Alex learned to rebuild her motor, transmission and all suspension parts. She received a smoothing of her lines, a complete new paint job, total new leather interior and a high performance suspension all at the hands of Alex and Peter. Hours were spend finding every perfect detail such as the exact thread colors to use to reproduce the monograms on the seats.

Z Car was called one of the cleanest restorations the motor heads that admired her had seen. Z Car enjoyed being back on the road and often was pulled over by police just to look at her. Every fill up resulted in conversations. Z Car was also actively involved in Kingwood Classic Cruisers Car Club.

Z Car is survived by grieving owner, Dawna and Peter, Alex and many other family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, you may wax your car in loving memory. We wish to thank C&D Paint of Humble, A+ Transmissions of Kingwood, Kenneth’s Complete Car Care of Kingwood, State Farm, and many others for taking such good care of Z Car during her lifetime.

Overflow thank you. My son learned to rebuild a car. The body shop apprenticed him through the paint process. The leather shop taught him to stretch and stitch, the transmission shop taught him to rebuild the tranny completely. He learned so much. My wife is devastated and so is my son.

Now to find a good project late 60's Camaro to work on.

Mustang drivers tend to make many mistakes. My uncle had a 2 seater 1984 turbo Z in the 90's. It was fast!

I feel for him, but there's not much he can do. Just tell him to look at he next rebuild as the one where he won't make much (if any) mistakes. It'll be the truly perfect build since he'll know exactly what to do.

Sorry to hear for your loss after a great restoration too. So how much damage was done to the other car?

It is a total as well I think. Both air bags, door, rear quarter and rear suspension all damaged badly.

Was the mustang driver drunk or just texting and driving?

I don't know about the mustang driver. We were sent home and my son was not ticketed. The report has not been provided yet. The other driver was not drunk.

I am sorry that the car was lost and happy your son walked away. That looked like a very nice 300. Hate to see a classic like that get totaled. Sad.

Are you suggesting a little bailing wire, duct tape, bondo and Dr. Color Chip?
