Zl1 disappointment?

So I spotted a convertible zl1 on a local lot in December and called on it. The dealer low balled the trade in on my ss due to the time of year and told me to bring it back in the spring. I brought my car in tonight for an appraisal and took the zl1 for a ride, it was much less than expected in the performance department. Handling was great and overall feel was a step up from my car, but it would barely out accelerate my ss. I'm actually thinking from a dead start I could pull the zl1 with my ss.
So what gives? This car has gotten rave reviews. I put the suspension into sport mode but didn't mess with traction control. I did feel the tc kick in several times at stop lights under power and the car felt very torquey but once you were under way it didn't pull like the freight train like I expected it would and it certainly didn't feel like the tc was holding me back at 70 mph plus. So bad gas? The car has been sitting since at least December, phase separation? Lot boy fill it up with 87? The computer should compensate for poor fuel conditions by retarding timing or remapping fuel curves?
Bottom line is I really like this car, but I'm not buying a dog. Any similar experiences, or solutions? Also I didn't come on here to bash the car, I've been drooling over it for months.hopefully it's something stupid and you guys can show me the error of my ways

Mine has never been a dog, if you really want to feel all the power turn the nannies off.

Dealership is probably putting cheap gas in it so is running on the lower octane setting.

Walk away from that dealer. Low-balling you on your trade? Why waste your time? Running bad gas in a new car? Why waste your time? Everyone should know what 580hp should feel like......if it doesn't....move on.

I have hard time believing a 2580hp ZL1 feels like a dog when driving it. lol

Clearly you've made up your mind. Buy it, move to another dealer or move on...simple really. Don't know or understand why you'd work with a dealer that clearly doesn't want to work with you. My dealer offered $3k+ off sticker and $2,300 over carmax for my trade. Why waste your time.....go find another dealer and truly work with a dealer that wants your business.

Well clearly I struck some sort of nerve with you. I'm glad you got such a great deal on your car. And yes the fact had crossed my mind that I might have to buy at another dealer to not feel like I was getting ripped. I posted looking for advice on why the performance felt off on the car I drove today; my guess is crappy gas but what do I know. Coming from an ss the acceleration should be substantially better in a zl1 correct? That's all I was really asking

No nerve here. I already bought my ZL1. You want one? Go find a dealer that wants to sell to you. The dealer you describe hates you and your trade.....so why bother? Move on to another dealer. Forum won't/can't help you with that. If you actually believe that an SS should feel faster than a ZL1, then again the forum can't help you there either. There is something wrong with that particular ZL1 and that particular dealer. Absolutely, unequivocally time to move on to someone/somewhere that wants your business. Right?

I've gone toe to toe with several SSs and the ZL1 stomps on them every time. Had one just try to take me today. The reason the ZL1 feels slower, and I had this same problem when I came from my GTO, is because the ZL1 is far, far more stable. You don't feel like you're going fast until you're well into the triple digits.
