The part of your ZL1 you never want to use...
The tire sealant and compressor.
Came out of the baseball game last night and got the indication when I started that my right rear was at 1psi. Couldn’t see it until the sealent oozed out a bit from reinflating it. Was in the sidewall near the tread so most likely somebody came and poked it. Dropped it off at the dealer for free replacement with road hazard which they didn’t ask any questions about. Interesting thing is they couldn’t find the stock GY tires in the GY system. Said the part number may have changed or simply really low on stock and only available to the GM factory. They said they would bring two tires that had different part numbers, one from Dallas and another from Austin to compare tread and make sure it’s a match. Was not my first game this year, but it was my first using the stadium parking. Looks like I’ll do what I did before from now on and park at work and take the train to the stadium.

Don't be discouraged. Drive your car there if you want. And sorry that happened to you. But at least it all worked out in the end!

Was it a cut in the sidewall? I can’t imagine someone knifing a sidewall.

How many miles were on the tires? What was the tread depth? How much did the dealer charge you?

Probably not vandalism, just unfortunate. Punctures in this area are far more common than you realize, that is a very vulnerable area and current industry standard is that any puncture within approx. 2" of the shoulder renders the tire "non-repairable". Sorry this happened to you, I know from experience that it sucks, but hey, Let's Go Astros!

Not sure on the exact depth, I had my second free oil change a couple weeks ago and had asked about the tread wear and they seemed to think that they had at least another 5k miles in them before I should look at new tires. As far as whether or not it was vandalism, it seems like the more likely thing given the location and the moment. Parking lot not entirely well lit, lots of people making noise. Maybe a mad yankee fan. It’s all speculation. I couldn’t even see the spot until the sealant started coming out and I wiped it away with my finger. These are the facts. I had a low pressure on my front passenger a little over a month ago and I got a warning email from onstar, but the pressure was still in the 20s. I took it in and nothing found by the dealership. As to why only that one, it was on a wheel I had refinished for curb rash. I’m assuming the tires are nitrogen filled stock and the discount tire the wheel was taken to remount the tire didn’t use nitrogen. I looked at my email after I was home this time and found the notification was for 1 psi 1 hour before I got back to my car but well over 2.5 hours after I parked. Slow leak would have triggered something between 35 and 1 psi. If there was more light, I would have spent more time looking for it before using the sealant as hole was near the top of the wheel well as opposed to being near the ground. Which I think would be better for having gravity to help a little. Still worked out, drove about 300 ft waited to see if the pressure would go down, and it went up to 29 so I went on my way. The only time I have had a close call with junk in the road was a tire tread on the interstate on my way back from Dallas, but that was 2 months ago and if anything it would have been the driver side not the passenger. I will say this, the compressor got the tire up to 28 psi and wouldn’t go further even though the gauge on it said it was at 40, the TPMS showed 28 in case anybody needs to use it.
