Tour Mode offer Better Gas Mileage
In the driver manual it states that Tour Mode offers the best economy. Anyone now how or why that mode has a better effect on economy? No detail is given when I thought the Modes only effect Steering, Suspension and exhaust.

I believe the mode selection also changes throttle mapping and A8 shift points. Maybe Tour Mode has a less aggressive throttle response and the shift points are set to a lower RPM? I think there are some forum threads that give details about each driving mode.

I don't have an automatic, but does Tour mode on autos enable AFM?
In my C7 it is available for the manual in Eco mode, but I never use that, and I'm glad the manual SS doesn't have it at all. |

No AFM is active in all modes. If Tours makes for better mileage, it's because of the throttle response and shift points for the A8.

I drive about 8 mi round trip in the city, always in tour mode. Very gentle drive with mostly no hard accelerations but still manage about 12 mpg. So I am not convinced that the tour mode makes much of a difference.

Gotta be the throttle mapping, IMO.

Average speed will be around 45 mph. I have tried using Sports mode sometimes and it barely changes the mpg. Although it will be an interesting experiment to try.

Not what you think you are averaging, what the car says is your average speed on the MPG screens. You'll need to reset it before one of your trips to get an accurate rating. There's no way your average speed over that distance is 45mph with that kind of mileage unless you have something wrong or riding around in 3rd or 4th. To give you an example, I average 20mpg on a tank with an average speed around 30-35mph. That's over 330 miles as well.

The average speed that will tell the difference is the one in the instrument display. One of the menu items in there shows your average speed which includes your idle time at lights, starts, stops plus driving down the road - in other words all the time your engine is running is averaged into that speed calculation. That is likely a lot lower than the average speed limit of 45 mph on the roads you drive for your 8 mile trip. For instance - my average speed over the 8500 miles on the car is about 40 mph and my life time MPG is 21.0. My best guess is that your average speed is pretty low for such a short commute and that is why your MPGs are so low. The LT1 gives good mpg only at crusing speeds in the top gears allowing it to run for extended distances at low rpms.
