I really miss my 96 SS Convertible and I'm looking at trying to find another one but in a coupe this time around.
The convertibles had terrible chassis flex on the track when pushed hard but I loved the LT1 and the sound of that SLP exhaust. I know it's blasphemous to say, but I liked the sound of my 96 over my 2010. Scott

I loved my 4th gens, I had one manual 2001 and one automatic 2002. I would easily get another just to have.

I actually had 3 of them:
1994 Pontiac Formula - 6 speed with NO options - cloth interior - sold due to no t-tops 1996 Chevy Z28 Convt- auto - the auto is what caused it to be sold 2002 T/A WS6 - 6 speed - should still have this one but am happy with the 5th gen

Nope, not a bit. The interior was deteriorating rapidly and while not terrible, the v6 sounded like a damn lawnmower. It was a pretty reliable car though, so I'll give it that. (when it wasn't eating through the bypass tubes and leaking coolant everywhere that is - got aluminum ones the second time)

The only aftermarket item I added on my '96 Z28 was a CAI. The stock exhaust on it sounded so much better than the stock one on my 2012 SS. It had a rich, low rumble at idle but no drone at all. That sound I do miss.

I ordered my 97 Z28 to keep the cost down. Cloth interior, 6spd. Unmodified daily driver for 5 years, 120k miles. Fun at the time.
I picked up an 01 Z28 6spd in 05. It had 60k miles when I got it, now up to about 238k. Mild heads, cam & bolt ons. I still enjoy the car but I've replaced/rebuilt almost everything on it (with help from ls1tech), time for a new challenge. This will be gifted to my brother soon. Has a few small issues but runs well. Just got my 14 SS in December with 60k miles. So far I've added a Z28 intake, Kooks LTs & cats and a Magnaflow street CB. I would say the brembos and independent rear suspension are a big step up compared to the 4th gen. More displacement and better flowing stock heads are a nice starting point too. |

I miss my 4th gen a lot. 2001 SS with a ton of work and time into it. Learned everything about working on cars on that thing. At the time I was just happy to get into my 5th gen but now I regret it. I should have just kept it, I had the room. It would've looked so nice between my 3rd and 5th gens I have. I occasionally get the urge to try to find it to buy back but I know that the guy I sold it to sold it to somebody else less than a month later....

I liked my 4th gens (had a 1994 Trans Am and a 2001 Camaro SS), but I am not sure I miss them. Part of the problem was I had a college student budget at the time, so the ones I had were definitely not shining examples. My 2001 was $5,400, purchased in 2009 - someone else on this thread mentioned selling their's for $22k the same year, that should tell you what a gem mine was! But it was fast, fun, and the paint looked pretty decent from 10' back.

I had 3 4th Gens. A 93 V6, 93 Z28 hardtop, M6, 94 Z28 M6 hard top. I did a lot to both Z's and drove the crap out of them. The only heartburn I ever had with the LT1's was the opticrap.

Maybe if you had a V8 you may feel differently. I would never own a Camaro with a V6. Never. That is like buying a Dodge Viper with a four cylinder engine.

I don't miss mine. Had a LT1 Z28 fire engine red, black interior. My 5th. Gen SS is my favorite so far. I also had 2 3rd. Gen one black, one silver.
