1LE wheels painted or coated at factory?

Are the OEM black wheels on the ZL1 / 1LE painted or powder coated? I've taken the car to two high end shops asking about a minor repair to one wheel, and both shops are quoting north of 150 because the wheels need to be completely RE powder coated, regardless of how minor the repair is. I thought they were painted from the factory so I'm just a little confused. I've read on the forum of repairs like this being sub 150.

If I remember correctly from previous post they are painted. Guys complained about the shitty paint coverage, which I have noticed on my wheels as well. Some have had theirs powder coated and they look good. I'm sure the paint code is listed in the old post if you can locate it with a search. Sorry I can't be more exact.

Painted. Your shop is trying to swindle you. I had mine powder coated because of how crappy the stock paint job was.

Thanks guys. I'm not gonna have 1 out of 4 coated to fix a minor curb scuff.

Make ABSOLUTELY sure they use a low-temp powder and that they cure at no higher than 300 degrees. Baking them at regular temps (400 to 450) will over-cure (actually it's annealing) and the wheels will get brittle.

Start at post #5 and work your way through the thread from there:

I have no intention to coat any of the wheels. Both shops told me it would be expensive because to repair minor curbing they'd have to RE powder coat. I wasn't sure they were even coated to begin with - which you guys confirmed. And it would be silly to have 1 powder coated wheel and 3 that aren't - just because of curb rash. And.... I'm not spending 600-700 bucks to powder coat 4 wheels and risk weakening the wheels cuz of curb rash on 1 wheel.

Now that I know it's painted I will take it to a shop that specializes in wheel repair vs. a performance shop that doesn't know a powder coated wheel from a painted wheel.

I agree, these factory wheels/ rims are painted like shit. They must have outsourced the wheel painting portion.

I think they must have relocated the C5 wheel painting robot to the C6 Mosaic Black assembly line

You need to make Chevy pay for that. They have fixed many due to the lack of paint. Your's will not be the last as well.

If your normal dealer will not help you go to another.

As others have said definitely painted and not very well. The barrels on mine are so lightly painted they are more light grey than black.
