Which fast list are you referring to? Link? Most autos with just a tune are running low 12s. #8 on the list below cracked 11s on stock tires:

My brother in law has one and I was very impressed. Point the front wheels where you want to go and floor it! He's a skilled driver and did a good job of scaring the shit outta me!

Down here, they can't give away VWs due to stigma of DieselGate!

More discounts for those willing to look past that. It's still hard to find an R if you want specific options and colors though, due to their limited production, so resale value on these probably won't be hurt much by DieselGate.

I'm not convinced by this FAST list power wise; its getting EXCELLENT E.T.s, but its mostly because of the drivetrain and awd 1st, not because of the power 1st. Props to VW for this killer DSG/awd combo, but the power is still missing for the price. Right after the 8th fastest times, they all fall to 110mph and less. 0-60 is all in the 1.7ish, which is killer and shows its all about traction.

EXCELLENT E.T., but I was never impressed with 0-60mph times, because its all about traction and not power. Its and accomplishment to put 100% of the power down, but I'm not into this. I bet it handles on rails to. Great car overall of course.

The report is NOT showing 0-60 mph times like you indicate. It is showing the time from start line to 60' down the track. Quite a difference. Not sure you could find any car that goes 0-60mph in less than 2 seconds.

^Correct. SMH. The 0-60s are in the sub-4-second range with just a tune and most of these guys trapping 114+ mph in the 1/4-mile are doing it with just a tune and downpipe--less than $2k in modifications! It took 3x the displacement, all the bolt-ons and a cam swap for my LS3 to trap 114 mph. Granted, it's much faster now and about to get even faster (700 rwhp, here I come)--still my go-to vehicle for all-out fun, but you can't tell me that's not impressive for a little 2.0-liter. If you're still not impressed, go for a ride in a Stage 3+ Golf R like I did--runs 10s and embarrasses most cars on the street...

Anyway, I didn't buy this car for all-out performance or to replace my Camaro. I bought it because it's a perfect (for me) Jack of all trades--economy, practicality, performance. 'Sure beats the boring "beater" it DID replace; LOL...

I've been following the Golf R since the new model came out a few years ago. Now the Focus RS has captivated me a bit more, almost the same car with even more umph. I haven't sat in either, so it's likely the Golf has a better interior and features. But for hot hatch performance, the Focus is the new king.

I'd have to search, but if I recall some comparison tests have shown the RS isn't much faster than the R, especially if the R is an automatic, like mine. I personally don't like the Boy-racer looks (inside and out), nor the more cramped interior of the RS, not to mention I don't like Fords, in general. Also, I'm just a $400 piggyback tune away from ~360 hp and sub-4-second 0-60s in the R (just waiting for break-in to be done before I pull the trigger).

The thing about the Focus RS that most don't like, the interior is the same... Focus RS on down to base Focus... they should have upgraded the RS interior a bit.

I'd still take a WRX STi over any of the choices so far.

To each their own. The only thing I like about the STI is its better AWD system. What I don't like about the STI: Boy-racer exterior, drab interior, no torque (have to do a clutch drop at high RPMs for a decent launch), no more hatchback option.

The new Focus RS with 350hp runs a 13.4 according to C&D. I don't see the Golf R being close to that with 292hp. The fastest I saw was a 14.0. Still though, they are cool little cars. Congrats!

14.0? LOL. You're thinking of the GTI. Many tests have proven an automatic R doing 4.5-second 0-60s and low-13s in the 1/4.
