Brake Fluid change.. Questions..

Anyone changed their brake fluid in the Z28? Is it hard to bleed the brakes? Do I need any special tools?

I'm thinking about putting in the high temp brake fluid for this summer.

Do I just jack it up and remove the wheels and pump the brakes, old school style?

That is pretty much what I did. I swapped my fluid out a couple of months ago.

I've got one somewhere I used on my boat trailer. Hose with a cup. Keeps the air out during bleeding.

Ha! How much was it? That may be the best choice.

Did they just put the stock fluid back in? If so I felt it was junk.

Had the dealer do my switch over to Motul just because I wanted to make sure they did they ABS activation (or factory procedure). Now that this is done, I'll just use my motive bleeder after a track event going forward.

They charged my $64.99..and I provided the Motul...

Same thing here. I had the dealer flush and fill with Castrol SRF. Prior to that after the initial install the pedal feel was still not "right".

In order to completely flush the fluid in an ABS-equipped car, you have to cycle the ABS in order to chase all of the old fluid out of the passages and cavities inside the ABS hydraulic control unit. Normal braking and conventional bleeding procedures aren't enough.

You have to either be braking hard enough to make the ABS do its thing (you should feel the brake pedal pulsing under your foot) or trick it into thinking you're in an extreme braking event. The factory procedure with the Tech II uses the second approach and no actual driving takes place.

You don't need high-temperature brake fluid just because we're getting into the warmer months. Street driving just doesn't get things hot enough to require it.

If you're tracking this car, you need high-temp fluid no matter what the outdoor temperature is.

Trying to re-open a common thread rather than start a new one. How long does brake bleeding take in general? I don't know if I have a power bleeder, but if we're supposed to bleed often in the event of track events, I may invest in one. I'm curious on the time as I've never bled brakes on car with the multiple piston (inner/outer) like the Z/28 has. My only experience is on classic cars. Are we talking an hour with a power unit?
