Crazy question on performance
Okay so this is probably a crazy question but here it goes. Has anybody attempted any performance upgrades on a 2015 Malibu 1LT? If so what would you recommend for more power/ throttle response?

The structure and transmission are not built for more power.

Are you sure about that? They've been modding Sonics and Cruzes (1.4T) for a while and they seem to hold up pretty well. It might be hard to find performance parts for the 2.5L, but I would think the Malibu is just as tough as the Cruze.

It all depends on the meaning of performance gains. Doubling the factory hp rating like I did in my Camaro would turn the Malibu into a pretzel.

I doubt it. Traction might be hard to find, but I'm sure it could handle 400 HP from a structural standpoint. The transmission of either would be taxed at double the horsepower, so both would probably need to be built for reliability.

Looks like you can get about 35 HP from a tune. You might get a bit more with some exhaust changes and an intake.

The 2.0T does get a different transmission than the 2.5L (6T70 vs 6T45). The 6T45 is rated at 232 lb-ft (engine) and the while the engine only makes 186 lb-ft at peak. There is definitely some safety margin there. For comparison, the L99 make 410 lb-ft peak and the 6L80 is only rated for 439 lb-ft. Many have taken their L99 Camaros well past 439 lb-ft without issue.
