In the powertrain section what on earth is flexibility? Says it's based on the cars dimensions, capacities, rebates, extras and or test results? I would imagine the corvette should have won here since it's probably a bit more useable than the track focused engine in the Mustang no? Also how does the mustang score better for transmission?

I was just going to say that. Didn't C & D run the same lap time for both and have the GT500 running through the 1/4 over half a second faster, then declare the ZL1 the winner because it was a bit cheaper and they liked the feel more? Sounds pretty much the same.

Exactly. The ZL1 may have felt better. But it got murdered. End of story.

I've said it before, but for some reason people keep forgetting. Magazines aren't scientific journals. If all they did was report stats, what would be the point? Just look at the specs of two cars and if you know what you're talking about, 99% of the time the results of same day, same driver outright performance tests are predictable. Very few people buy cars based on lap times and trap speeds alone though. The driving experience is paramount for almost all buyers and that includes mostly subjective categories, even brand loyalty.

This 100%. Subjectivity has no place in head-to-head, performance testing.

Like a few others have said, I don't remember anyone complaining when the GT500 put up almost exclusive better stats than the the ZL1 but the ZL1 was given the win.

Think about it this way. If they said 'Corvette beats GT350,' people would be like 'ok that is expected.' But having the GT350 win, they sell more magazines (that is the point of the magazine after all) and get more coverage because it is 'shocking' and 'big news'

GT350 is an fantastic car...not going to argue that.
Maybe it really is slightly more fun to drive than the Vette. But was it faster? No. So the awkward conversation goes like this: Person: "So I heard your car beat the Corvette Z51!??" GT350 owner: "Yes sir it did!" Person: "Wow...I can't believe your Mustang is faster than a Corvette!" GT350 owner: "...uuhh...well...the Corvette was actually faster." Person: "So...how did it win?" GT350 owner: "Well...its more fun to drive." Person: "So...its slower...but better?" GT350: "yes.....uhh...yes it is!" Person: "OK" *walks away* lol...maybe a little harsh...but isn't it accurate??
