You should choose the A8 over the A6 because you can't choose an A6 on a 6th gen.

I didn't say that. What I said was...

I imagine the A6 would be even more impressive with an LT1, than with an L99. I was under the impression that the A8 was an "upgrade option", with the A6 being the "standard option" to a manual. My bad. (I would have sworn I read that somewhere).

Anyway, thanks for the input all.

It's possible that the A6 has more aftermarket high HP support.

You could just always drive it in manual mode, and only upshift to 6th gear all the time, and pretend you have a 6 speed

That will be a temporary situation. The ZO6 has paved the way for more power handling.

So much BS here.

I think there is a difference between "couldn't afford" and "didn't want to spend that much money" though. I mean, we assign value (not just monetary), then make choices, and we go from there. (And, for the record, there are a few folks who have said they went with the V6 because of the price)

Consider all the folks who said "I don't go to the track so I didn't get the 6-pot brakes." This doesn't say they can't afford them, it simply says they assigned a value to it, and had they gone to the track, that usable value would have been more, and thus worth spending the money on.

I wonder what the response would have been if the manuals were the more expensive option....Certainly automatics are now more common in all makes. I don't think there is even a truck that offers a manual anymore....

If the manual is considered the more sporty option, so to speak, I wonder how many would have been willing to pay more for it....

honestly I thought the manual would be more and fully expected to pay for that. To each his own but my little civic is even fun in a manual. My wifes Caddy is auto and thats how its supposed to be but my camaro will be M6 all day.

For the record...

I got an auto because I hate shifting (have owned many manuals)
I got a SS because my LT wasn't fast or powerful enough (missing 2 cyl)
I love my sunroof and wouldn't be without one (but wouldn't have a vert)

When the Challenger came back, and up until the 2011 MY, the manual was the buy up. The base transmission was the 5 speed auto and the TR6060 was a $1,200 upgrade. With it you also got a stronger rear end (225mm vs 215mm), 3.92 vs 3.06 gears and a token 3 more rated HP (375 vs 372) and 10 ft lb more torque (410 vs 400). All these figures are for the R/T, the SRT8 was the same be it manual or automatic.

It wasn't until 2011, post bankruptcy and merger, that the normal way of things was restored.

As a result the majority of the roughly 6,000 MY 09 and 10 (combined) R/T Challengers are autos.

Since you are going with the 6, performance isn't your number 1 objective. The A8 is heads and shoulders a better performing transmission. Quicker shifts and better at keeping the car in the right gear. We had the A6 in our 2015 Camaro and have the A8 in our 2015 C7 and the difference in performance is night and day. That's disregarding the relative HP and weight difference of the two cars.

Is there a comparable V6 muscle with the same performance? Both straight-line as well as track?

I'm just sayin, if you want a V6, and are looking for the best performance in a V6...
