There are a lot of things a vehicle needs that do not come stock on the vehicle... Why is that still being used as an argument?!? Its like saying DEF fluid came stock on tractor trailer trucks and is therefore better/needed for the trucks to be reliable and increase longevity. NO it isn't, it is just required to pass the crazy emissions requirements. The multiple catalysts and fluid setup can actual cause major issues if not properly maintained. Just because an engineer from GM didn't put a catch can on the car, does not mean it shouldn't have one. There's lots of things on the cars that aren't necessary and lots of things missing that a car could use. /endrant catch can arrives tomorrow

They wont say it because they do good business. But a lot of RX products are not good. That being said, maybe try a different catch can. Mine plus a clean side catches a ton and I have nothing in my IM when I check it every oil change.

You currently have a "dirty side" catch can. That can is catching the oil before it goes into the IM. "Clean side" is the drivers side PCV system where air enters the crankcase. Placing a catch can here, would be very important, especially for boosted engines.

Oooh ok. Just did a quick google search. I see it is a little can that goes in place of the oil cap. But couldn't find any info on where the hose goes tho. Would it be to the elbow in my intake?

Yes. The 1le style clean air oil separator kit, comes with everything you'll need. And the directions are very helpful.

I see. So the thought is that a lot of it is coming through that hose rather then the catch can. I'll pop that elbow off tomorrow and see if there's any residue in there. If that elbow is dry then it has to be that crap can.

Hi everyone.

So. I just stumbled on this, "catch cans" huh?

Well, I just bought a 2012 RS 2 months ago, and has 75,000 km on it.

What needs to be cleaned (and how?) before I instal a catch can? I can imagine there is so much oil build-up somewhere?

If it is a V6, then it is a direct injection engine and you will need to have a manual intake valve cleaning service performed (NOT a Seafoam or BG type...will shorten engine life!).

If a V8 prior to 2016, then most all should work it;s way out over time and the deposits in the ringlands should clean as well somewhat.

My elite can has collected over 50 ml (1.7 oz) so far and I still have 40% left before my next oil change.

It sounds like it's doing it's job. Much better in the bottom of the Catch Can than in your intake!

I am VERY happy with my elite engineering catch can. not sure of the amount it has collected after a couple months, but there was definitely some stuff in there last time I checked.
