I'm going to throw out another question. If a person decides to go with the factory supercharger and installs it on a regular V8 Camaro (manual or automatic), will the factory cam suffice or will it NEED to be replaced with an aftermarket cam?

Depends on power goals. Factory cam is fine if you have very modest power goals.

Forget about the warranty!
Buy smart and buy only 1 time! Buy a blower or turbo that you can run around 550 to 600 rwhp and your never have a problem unless its installed or tuned wrong or you run some type of drag tires. That being said when you have the money to do forged internals that FI system you bought can then got to 800 rwhp plus. Things you need to watch is wasting money on fuel system like the ZL1 pump. It quickly runs out of fuel when upgrading. By the time you pay for a boosta pump or module you can have dual pump for 800 rwhp. If e85 is in your area you will want to skip all this and go directly to the Fore or squash setup.. They burn ya 400 bucks to R and R the pump each time so do it once! Injectors: those 52lbs zl1 lSA or eforce are to small unless stock psi is ok forever! So try to get a kit with out injectors and buy your own.. ID 850s on pump and ID 1000s or 1300 on e85. Its unfortunate that no one ever tells you these things when you buy a SC kit! If you have any ability at all you can put a eforce kit on! the hardest ting is drilling the crank, they supply you with a bit and template you supply a good drill! Downside on these smaller blowers you gotta turn them really hard to make some good numbers and during the summer they generate so much heat you lose about 100 hp so you will need to think about lowering IATs or live with it.

Buy turbo, superchargers are ancient and a thing of the past, many more posabilites with a big turbo setup

What is it with you turbo boys that make you so immature? You constantly feel the need to bash other systems. A turbo is a fine set up. As are all the other boost options. All have their place. |

What's even funnier is that the original patents for all three (centri, turbo and PD) were all from around the same time (1880-1900). LOL

If we all wanted turbos we would all buy them. But we dont. I would not trade my setup as a dd for nothing. Check out the reason why. Where do you spend most of your time zipping around town. At lower rpms correct. Check out these 2 graphs both at around 10 psi. Notice the torque difference at 3000rpm. The pd blower car has 300 more rwtq and almost double the horsepower. While the turbos trying to get spooled im already gone. The only thing i would own with turbos is a race car with a turbo 400 and a gear vendors a stall and a 2 step that works. Im just using the top graph as a reference nothing against them at all. This is the supercharger killer graph compared to my 417 lsa.

A matched converter, gearing, and trans go a long way in a turbo car... but that can be said about any setup.
Mine is not a dd, but I drive it very often and Id rather dig race, but a roll race is inevitable. A couple buddies jump on the highway together.... Hell I almost got run down by a 4xxwhp srt4 neon on the highway, and his was a dd. Don't over think the low end grunt of our blowers, pull after pull we heatsoak and most turbo cars dont
