Nah....I didn't kill him...the fact of the matter is we were at a gun range...and I DID have a loaded pistol in my hand when it happened! Here are some pix to satisfy the morbidly curious amongst us:

If he had simply turned his F-ing head to look where he was going he wouldn't have hit me. I was parked 50 feet behind him. Plenty of room for him to make his cut. But the inconsiderate D-bag backed up without looking. ( He admitted this to the cop, the insurance company phone rep, and to me. ) Fact is just my car got damaged... what if a kid had been wandering around behind him?

Hi
RE: paint match. In 2015, this isn't the horror it used to be, even with a metallic or other hard to match paint. My car has been vandalized several times, twice on the rear bumper and once on the rear quarter, it is Imperial Blue Metallic. All but impossible to tell that the paint is not all original on my car. I know that's easy to say, but I have entered classic cars into shows- cars that I didn't pay for restoration work on, cars that I did the work on myself. I notice these things. If the shop of your choice canot match the paint (not just in color, in finish too) perfectly, frankly, they are incompentent. There's no excuse for that poor type of quality these days.

Here's how I have always dealt with insurance claims:
First of all, I never, ever talk to the other party's insurance company. I file a report with my company, and when the other party's company calls me, I refer them to my company. Then, I go to the body shop of my choice and talk to them about what I want done, and tell them to use OEM parts only. The adjuster and the body shop do the negotiating. I recall one case where the other party's adjuster came to the shop along with my adjuster. But I wasn't there. I have always gotten all the work I wanted. As for painting the whole car? That's not gonna happen, but a good shop will blend so you won't see where the new paint ends. |

Sorry to hear to got hit. It doesn't look bad, but I know it still sucks. Don't worry about paint match, as others have said a good body shop will have no problem. It might even match better than the original.
Most people don't realize this, but the bumpers and trim on most modern cars are not painted in the factory where the body is painted. The fascia supplier would have painted the fascia to begin with and they managed to get a good match. |

I would say a new front facia and grill insert and they would blend the paint back half way on the front fenders. I just recently had a Jacka$$ door dent my 2010 IOM and was estimated at a $1200 fix. Which included blending into front fender. Dent about the size of a quarter.

I am putting in a claim on his insurance not mine. They want me to use one of their approved shops to give me an estimate. Am I stupid for using one of their approved shops?

Luckily when my 2012 was wrecked my insurance company let me pick any shop I wanted. I originally had it towed to a Chevy dealer and they said there is no way the car is totaled and they really pressured me to leave it there. I asked around and found Autometrics had the best reputation so I had the car moved there, and they ended up totaling it. I bet if I left it at the Chevy dealer they would have fixed it and I'd have that messed up car in my garage now. |

If you don't already have preferred shop, then just go to the dealer. At least then, you will be starting with OEM parts and painting procedures. Do not, repeat, do not, let the other guy's adjuster call the shots. |

Backing up 50 feet without looking where you're going....is not an accident....it's not a brain cramp.....it's STUPID....IRRESPOSIBLE...and DANGEROUS.
