Windows automaticaly down and up

I have a 2SS, every time I open the door the windrow drops down an inch and when I close the door it goes back up to the closed position.

Why?

It's designed that way.

so it will close properly, allows the air inside to escape and not be an immediate vacuum.

If you look at the upper part of the window from outside the car, you'll see that it tucks up under the moulding to create a flush closure at the top of the window. It's done to help control wind noise, I believe.

Therefore, in order to clear the moulding when you open the door, the window has to drop slightly.

If it wasn't it would have to have a metal frame around the entire door to connect to the body. This way (less weight, looks cooler, maybe better aero) the window has to pop down to clear the frame, and it has to pop up to seal the window so water doesn't get in.

My opinion doors look better without a metal frame along the edge.

Thanks guys, you beat me too it.

Its is nice feature to have on a frameless door. I had a Neon that was frameless and the darn thing leaked all the time.

These cars don't have a window frame. The window has to be indexed to allow it to fit into door frame properly. It's made tighter than the old cars that just let the window press against a rubber seal.

Most coupes do this, my Audi S5 does it also.

What I thought - it's part of ensuring a better water seal. Look at the contouring of the weatherstrip along the top of the window. Red boldface mine.

My 2008 Mustang has this same feature as well.

This automatically lowers the window a small amount when the door is opened. When the door is closed, the window will raise fully. If the vehicle loses power, you may need to reprogram the windows. Follow the procedure under "Programming the Power Windows" later in this Section. If a message about the windows appears in the Driver Information Center (DIC), see Window Messages on page 5‑43.

If the window freezes to the door, this feature may not work. To close a door with a frozen window, push the top of the window inward while closing the door so the top of the window goes under the roof seal.

For what its worth, the Gen 4 Camaros and Firebirds did not have this feature, but as we remember, were still a frameless door. Those of you that had one of these or still do know that at higher speeds the window would actually pull away from the moulding and make it very loud in the car. I really like this feature.

It does that so your girlfriend/wife doesn't have to slam the crap out of their door to close it.
