Chevy SS vs Charger SRT8 Review up
C+D got a 4.5s 0-60 and 12.9 1/4 mile out of their SS. Not too shabby.
I think that car is growing on me. http://www.ssforums.com/forum/new-20...rger-srt8.html Last edited by evilstevie; 11-30-2013 at 03:39 PM. |

I like it, I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

The SRT tested was $55k. A stripper version Super Bee is $45k. I think the price is ok.
Only when it becomes a 10,000 or more volume car (and made here) will it get cheaper.

Posted this in a different thread but will repost here.
As I predicted in June (post 155), the SRT8 is faster in a straight-line but the SS is the better handling car. About the Dodge... "The dashboard is as wide as a Ram pickup's, and the pinched windows and high cowl amplify the sense of corpulence."About the Chevy... "The SS's chassis is a monument to sports-sedan fundamentals."---------------Chevrolet SS----------------Charger SRT8 Power-------415HP/415lb-ft-------------470HP/470lb-ft Weight------3,931lb-----------------------4,371lb %F/%R------52.6/47.4--------------------54/46 0-60---------4.5sec------------------------4.2sec 1/4mile------12.9@111mph--------------12.6@114mph 70-0---------153ft--------------------------152ft Skidpad-----0.95g-------------------------0.90g Slalom-------43.7mph---------------------43.2mph Price---------$45,770/$45,770----------$47,475/$55,150 The SS won every category: vehicle, powertrain, chassis and experience. Simply more car for the money than the Dodge.

This will make all the Chrysler/Fiat fans come out of the woodwork in denial. We'll get the super bee is cheaper, we'll get the straight line performance, we'll get the styling is bland, on and on.
It's just great to see two cars with different answers to a similar question coming from two companies offering alternatives to much higher priced comparisons.

SS interior is vastly better IMO.
Exterior design is a toss up based on what you want out of a car.

1. The SRT core and SuperGay strippers cost less 2. The 392 wasn't broken in yet 3. The 8-speed tranny will change everything 4. The tires on the SRT aren't as sticky 5. The next super-duper track pack will pull 1.05g 6. The LX chassis is about to be updated 7. The Car&Driver reviewers are obviously biased Anything I missed?

I was really surprised that the performance numbers were as close as they were between the two. Either that SS was a ringer, or those cars are just fast. I didn't realize that they had dropped 100 lbs or so from the G8.
But the rest of the testing was not close at all. The SS really trounced the SRT...at least according to C+D. |

Yeah, but it's cheaper than the Charger SRT8.
I didn't know the SRT8 was that quick.....0-60 in 4.2 and 1/4 mile in 12.6. All in a large 4-door sedan. Wow! I guess that's where the extra $$$ comes from.
