Mazda RX8
hi fellow camaro enthusiasts.
i have a question reguarding the car above...my impala's dead now sadly..well not yet but for the 5TH TIME!!! the transmission fails.. it skips in first gear with barely a toe on the gas pedal, i don't race it..i don't abuse it but after the first tranny wen't out it was just bad, and i'm not fixing it again..its over, so i'm contemplating buying me a new toy, i'm saving up for it but in the mean time i need suggestions for a beater, i wan't to send like 1 thousand on just a beater to use for work, thus saving money for a mazda rx8 with a manual transmission, i fell in love with this car and it will put my camaro plans behind a bit, i didn't plan it this way but my impala forced it upon me. so, what kind of beater can i get for 1k that might last me a good 6 months? and is the rx8 a good choice? i know i might get some unique responses knowing everyone here loves gm, but a collection of minds that actually know about car's might help me better than my friends say "Yea man...buy that car and let's get drunk!!".....and that quote is real too. |

as for my opinion on the RX8...
i've driven 2 of them & loved it! it handles so well - very balanced and smooth weight transitions. the manual mode for the auto was a little disappointing. it's only a four speed (or at least that model was), the idea of not lifting off the gas was a bit weird. the 6-speed stick, however, was awesome. it has a pretty short throw & is very tight. clutch was pretty comfortable & easy to feel. the steering has little play & the car turns on a dime. that rotary engine is something else. it'll wind right up & is pretty responsive from the mid-range RPMs & up. interior is nice & controls are easy to access. seats are really comfortable. some things i didn't like are the fact that there wasn't a lot of room for my size 13 skis, but it was acceptable (much better than a miata). also, it's pretty bad on gas. i also hear you gotta watch the oil level because rotaries use it like a mug. rear & 3/4 visibility is hampered by the high back end, but it wasn't too much of a problem for me. (i'm used to suburbans & excursions that you can't see crap around there) overall, i'd like to have one, but not as a daily driver. hope that helped

it did thank you, i have decided that though i'm still buying a beater, i'm staying off the rx8..i figure if i buy the rx8 that's about 15k that can go to my camaro, i've thought it over some and i feel that is best, i'll just save that cash and put it towards a huge down payment, thanks again.
