I agree with Tag. I don't think it even depends on the success of the Camaro.

If the Camaro is successful in taking enough market share away from Ford, they will bring back the GTO and possibly the Firebird in order to give the GM loyals more options.

If the Camaro fails, they will most likely retire it again, and hold off for a few years before trying again with either the GTO or the Firebird.

The only way I can see them not bringing back one of those cars is if the Camaro is only moderately succesful. Meaning that they're selling enough to not cancel it, but it's right on the line and they don't want to take any risks.

They will make sure they get their Camaro sales first...most likely. I don't see more than two musclecars being put out from GM...outside of the Corvette arena, of course (which will never die!!!).

I dearly adore the Firebird, much like one adores a smelly, yet friendly, and loyal cat.

now that it's gone...I don't want it back. Camaro is plenty enough for me

For being a GM forum, there sure are a bunch of GTO haters on here. Haha, I didn't think it would be that way. I owned 2, both great cars.

We don't Hate (or at least I don't) any GM vehicle. you'll see we rag on all sorts of cars though

the front looks like an austin martin bu the back looks like a masarati.

Anyway, if they dont want to use the GTO name they could call it the G8 coupe. Regular buyers maybe dont want it to be called a gto and like the sound of coupe. If you think about it, it makes sense, its on the same platform...

i really dont like the G8 coupe name at all. Nothing against you Air but i just doesn't sound good from a marketing stance. if they design the gto the right way (more retro and musclular) and if you do call it the gto the people who would want to buy a rwd v8 pontiac coupe would relate to it and then most likely buy it. but it would be a good option for those who would want something other than the camaro. but i would like to see the gto come back. i would consider buying it if it is done right.

That's the only issue I have with a new GTO...has it's name been tarnished? Will people think "flop" or joke when they think GTO?
