Do manual SS have AFM?
I have a 2023 SS with the stick and I know it has the skip shift and does not have the AFM, but what do we know about the actual internal differences if any?

All 6gen camaro's have the AFM lifters and AFM valley cover oil manifold thing, but m6 cars have the AFM tuned out. So all the hardware is there in a manual, it just doesn't activate.

The only hardware difference between an auto and a manual is the manual exhaust does not have the AFM valves in it. Otherwise as Hostile said, same hardware just turned off

Is the AFM hardware benign? Any reason to replace them?

When GM motors fail it tends to be due to the afm lifters. Not implying that high percentage of them fail but when they do it typically starts as a lifter issue.

The lifters are the same but AFM is what generally causes the lifter failure, not the manual transmissions or the supercharged motors (ZL1).
Can the lifters still fail? Of course, just as a timing chain or something else could.... but the automatic trans cars (V6/SS) are where the problems generally occur.

A lgx can not have valve lifter problems. Can a lgx manual transmission suffer from afm hardware, I don't know.

Funny thing is the V6 in my LaCrosse was invisible for AFM. Start stop was as good as any other OEM I’ve experienced. But the V8 in the G8 and Camaro has always been passable to horrible. The SS didn’t have AFM but I believe I paid $1,200 for the gas guzzler tax.

The LGX and LGZ are considered to be a newer generation version of the GM 3.6 V6 engine. It featured big changes including different block architectures and bore sizes. This version of the engine supports features like cylinder deactivation and updated variable valve timing. Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and Auto Stop-Start system generate fuel savings of 9 percent compared to the 3.6L V6 LFX

Most states still ding the Camaro as a gas guzzler even with AFM, but I'm going to assume yours was a manual as that will always get dinged.

SS Sedan. GG Tax was federal so I’m not sure what states added additional taxes??

Usually cars that are imported get hit with the GG tax when it doesn't hit at least 21.5 MPG average. I had forgotten this was federal not state.... but I do believe that some places like California do have additional taxes.
