Castle doctrine in NC does cover the garage.

I know they are quickly dismissed as ineffective, but I have yet to see a stolen car video where the thief uses bolt cutters to remove a steering wheel lock in order to complete the crime. Relying on electronics, etc., to stop car theft seem to always be defeated.

Use a steering wheel lock and call it a day. Good luck.

The AirTags are kinda expensive for what they are but 4 packs often go on sale for $80 or so. It's hard to beat $80 for the peace of mind of knowing where your car is at all times.
So I tested the airtag idea. I have an iphone and an android (work supplies one). The android flags that I'm being followed by an airtag, and the software can tell the airtag to audio alert. Now that airtag sounds off every time I drive away from the house, been doing that for months. So that isn't going to be a great solution to tracking.

Next option, physically remove the speaker...

This is exactly why I am looking for one for my Camaro.

That's where my previous message comes into play. I personally want them to know they are being tracked. And as for the audio alert, I've also removed the speaker for them so they can't be found as easily as driving away.

I think once they have taken the car and performed undisclosed bad s*#t to it... might not want it back and settle for the insurance payout.

Defeating them getting it is more attractive to me than finding after the fact. Its going to take some effort to layer up the security, but I think its worth it. These are all pretty cheap solutions, and are much less than dumbstar subscriptions :-)

1. motion sensing lights in the driveway $20
2. faraday bags for the keys $15
3. add aftermarket shock, tilt, and glass breaking sensors to the factory alarm $80
4. kill switch on the starter, ignition, or fuel pump... or maybe all of them. $10
5. obd port anti theft physical lock, or faux port, access blocker, etc $20 and up

I used The Club back in the early 90s on my 89 Formula Firebird. They can easily use a $2 hack saw to cut through your $400 steering wheel. Plus you have to fiddle with it every time you enter and leave the car.

Well then I guess there is no way to stop them and just hope it doesn't happen.

So did your Firebird get stolen with The Club in place? Or did you not want to risk having your steering wheel damaged after being stolen?

I had installed an alarm with very sensitive shock/tilt sensors, and separate kill switch. The alarm went off a few times, but the car wasn't ever stolen. I think the factory solution on that car was a chip in the key that the computer tested for resistance value that the ecu would check before enabling operation.

Layering security will deter/delay, and potentially stop them. If they really want it, they'll get it by taking on more risk. Most likely they'll move onto an easier target with less risk.

In California if someone is stealing your car from your property or (even in your garage) and unless your life is in danger you are required to escape out the back door and let the crooks have there way. If for any reason you approach the MFers that are stealing from you and you hurt them in anyway you will be arrested for assault. This is a true story from what happened to a neighbor friend of mine. not a car but his belongings Cops want you to call them so they can take care of it. What a joke.

My car has a spartan GPS when I bought the car and I had a LoJack also installed. And for added security I have located 2 air tags on the car with speakers removed . Now I know this wont keep my car from being snatched up. but is a way for me to find my car after. (hope I dont need it)
