My experience with the 2023 4 cylinder Camaro

I have had this car for 2 weeks now and put 600 miles on it so far. In that time, I have got the hang of driving it, and got a decent feel for the car.

The most outstanding part of this car by far is the chassis and handling. The car takes almost all corners with zero roll and it almost feels like you aren't even turning. Absolutely amazing. The gas mileage for a sports car is amazing as well. When I baby the car, I can get easily 28 miles per gallon driving in the Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts.

The less amazing things about the car is the very obvious turbo lag. Starting from low RPMs, (2-2.5k) the car takes its sweet time to accelerate, id say it takes a solid second and a half for the car to get moving. when you hit around 4k it decides to get go, and it does go very fast after that. (Just a note, I didn't push it until about 550 miles due to the engine break in.)

The transmission seems to have a little trouble downshifting in some cases, but if you double clutch its fine.

The visibility in my opinion is much worse then people seem to say, the windshield is a little small compared to a regular car but I got over it shortly. The blind spots are also not very bad, as soon as a car gets out of view on my side mirror, they show up through the window, so there is almost no space where I wouldn't be able to see a car next to me. The biggest visibility problem I have, is driving on a road turning to the left, where the A pillar blocks a lot of the road.

The sound system is good enough, the seats are very nice, the shifter nob is good, the ventilation is good, the infotainment system is all you could need, the turn signal is pretty quiet which is annoying sometimes, the center compartment is tiny, and the back seats are borderline useless.

The trunk is much better then I would have thought, the frame is gorgeous, the headlights are great looking, the grill is aggressive, the stance is perfect. The exterior of the car is definatly the biggest strong suit. The car looks amazing.

Overall, its simply a great car with few annoyances. No buyers remorse (yet) and I dont see why I wont run this car till the end of its life.

great

happy for your car...really liked my 2017 camaro 4 cylinder....loved it...but i had that transmission shudder, so i tried a v6 with the A10 and man is it great!...i didnt like the turbo lag, but when you are on the highway and the turbo kicks in it is fast! but, if you ever drive a A10 with the V6 you'll love that even more! you are right the alpha chassis is fantastic!!!!

I'm always happy to hear from someone one with a 4 or 6 cyl. gen6, even better with a manual. The first gen 6 I drove was a 4 cyl. manual and I new I had to have one. A month later I got a new v6 that I love and have 46k miles on now. I changed my tranny and diff. oil at 37k miles. If I knew how easy it was I would have done it sooner. I plan on doing it once a year now, 22k miles for me.

I have blind spot mirrors on mine. Problem solved. I bought the car to save on gas and turns out the turbo needs premium gas. I found out after I got it. :( I would have just gotten a V6 if I knew this prior to ordering

That reminds me that I used a clip-on wide-angle rear view mirror on my 2016 1LT daily-driver. The video rear view mirror on my 2021 eliminated the need for that.

When I went to the dealership to test drive, they had two new Camaros in stock. They had a 6-speed LT-1 and an automatic turbo-4. I test drove the LT-1 first, and my mind was pretty much made up before I even sat down in the turbo. I think if I drove the turbo first, I may have had a better opinion of it. But I ended up ordering the LT-1 because back-to-back the price difference was worth it IMO.

Welcome to the turbo pony club. The modern Camaro and Mustang are so far from their muscle car ancestry that they are really the attainable 3/4-series coupes of that overseas car manufacturer with a blue and white propeller like logo.

The handling certainly improves even more with a simple shock absorber and tire upgrade. I run Bilstein A6 shocks and Bridgestone RE-71's (245/40R19) for summer tires and enjoy the drive down the Taconic.

I would run premium on a turbo too.

Always get best results on my 4 cyl turbo Trax AWD.
My wife used to only use premium on her old Cobalt SS as well.

Back in 2018, I rented a Camaro turbo 4 and enjoyed it a lot. Drove it around Sedona and then to Phoenix.

GM only requires 87 octane for the v6. I used 87 for the first 18 k miles of my v6's life. The exhaust would make a bad odor when driven hard, I thought it had an exhaust leak. I started using 93 because of what I read online including a lgx tuner.I think It takes about a thousand or so miles for the ecu to totally adjust for 93. The bad exhaust smell stopped and the lgx a joy to run hard. I have ran 93 for approximately 1.5 years.

In the user manual, the turbo 4 Recommends premium, but it can use regular AS LONG AS YOUR ENGINE DOESNT KNOCK. I have been using regular and my engine doesn't knock, so in theory it's fine.

It's going to pull timing, so it may have less efficiency and power. Worth checking fuel economy between the two, it might even out and in some cases the higher octane may prevent knock, like when its hot out or you're going up a big hill.

When going from regular to premium it will take a tank for it to adjust, so don't measure fuel economy until you're on the 2nd tank.

IMO though, premium is well worth the resistance to knock. I was looking at getting a T4 but ended up with an SS due to the deal I got in 2018, but if I did own a T4 I'd get a flex-fuel tune and run E85, which is 104 octane equivalent. This will allow more timing and more power and efficiency, but your fuel economy will go down by 30% or so.
