Dealers that taking advantage of the situation will be the ones most hurt when direct from the manufacturer to customer orders become a thing. Dealers have the benefit of rolling out the red carpet for buyers and the service department. These are two key points that should be evaluated and maximized to retain customers long term. The ones that don't have no one to blame but the person in their mirror.

Umm, no. That is actually far worse advice than recommending someone to purchase new right now. A fair majority of the used market are selling for close to their original MSRP's, often higher. The best chance of achieving a decent deal is to place a factory order with a dealer who is willing to work with you a bit.

Just throwing my 2 cents in: if you are not trading in a vehicle that has an inflated trade-in value for a new one right now, you should not be buying a car. The only exception I can see to this is if you want a new car and the model is being discontinued before prices correct themselves or changes in the design of the vehicle in the near future force your hand to buy one now or never have a chance to have the older design.
Also, as many others have pointed out. You can get new Camaros at MSRP right now. If you paid more than MSRP, you were either impatient, lazy, or both.

He is marking up his cars also. He has a video stating so. But if you order i believe no mark up.

Consumers are desperate, dealers have limited inventory. But I would not pay 1 penny over window sticker ever. You may have to travel as some dealers are doing these insane mark ups.

The first Camaro I had on order right before the first chip shortage shutdown I went in and had a written deal in place when the order went in. I wasn't going to get caught in an ADM trap or surcharge etc etc
Ended up getting out of it any way and going with Joe in Detroit. |

The dealer markup is unfortunately the norm right now. I just had to turn in a MB GLC300 off lease. I wasn't about to sign a new lease and get locked in to an absurdly high monthly cost, so decided to purchase. Shopped around at Audi, MB & Cadillac. All were advertising a $5k markup and when negotiating, the markup ended up being $2k.
I ended up finagling MSRP on another MB, but it was quite the hassle and we had to get creative. They charged me a $1500 markup on the new car, but since I had a lease I was turning in, they gave me $2k in equity on the lease, so I ended up paying $500 under MSRP. But that was a unique situation. If I went with Audi or Caddy, I'm confident I would've had to pay a markup.

If you have a car being turned in from a lease currently, one of the best approaches to take is to get a quote from either another dealer what they are willing to buy the car for or get a carmax quote just to gauge what they would pay. I had a friend who instead of turning in a lease, had carmax buy the car for the buyout price + offer 10k cash directly. |

Unless you are absolutely desperate to buy a Camaro you would have to be a fool to pay any kind of a surcharge over sticker.
