Rear Brake Caliper

I noticed before I washed her yesterday that one of the rear calipers had a bit of oil around the top bleeder. Today when I got home from work you can see it glisten slightly so I know its seeping. Is a new caliper the only way to fix this? They sure arent cheap lol.

Depends if it's leaking from the line connection or the caliper.

Swap out the bleeder with a new one, clean it up with brake clean and check again.

After the bleeder is R&R, it will need to be bled again also correct? I didnt know you could just replace them lol.

Might just get away with replacing it but to be on the safe side you can bleed that caliper. With a leaking bleeder it’s pretty much a gravity bleed.

Anyone have the part number for this by chance? I keep finding different ones when I try to google it. I assume, I just unscrew the old one and put in the new one? Does it need any sealant when you replace? When my rotors and pads were replaced recently, could they have damaged this to cause it to leak?

No sealant, they bottom out on the inside of the caliper this is what stops the flow. They could have, maybe they bleed them (though I don't know why they would need to). First thing I would do is see if it is tight, a simple tightening may do it. They don't take a lot of torque to seal they are small but they should be good and snug, see if it tightens fairly easily then clean it and check it after a drive. If it still leaks it could be the metal of the bleeder has degraded, or possibly the seating surface inside the caliper. Most likely a 1/16 or 1/8 turn on the bleeder will fix it.

I assume they opened the bleeders when I had them put the rotors and pads on. When I originally picked it up the pedal was squishy and if I pumped it it would be more firm. So I took it back and told them to fix it it seems to have air in the line. So I would assume they bled them again at that point. This was a month or so ago so any residual fluid should have been gone. Especially since she gets a back every two weeks. I will see if it snugs down any when I get home though. Maybe ill get lucky lol.
