New LT1 dealer installed
Hello everyone my wife and I are on the market for a 16 to 17 2 ss and a local dealer has a 2017 with a brand new motor because the old one apperantly failed. My question is should this be something to be worried about? Should the price be the same as one with its original engine? This car has 5k miles on it let me know what you think!

If it’s the car you want I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s gonna be covered under warranty just as the original engine was.

I agree. Not a worry if it is what you want, but still worth using it to get a fair deal on your end

Agree, as long as it has the factory warranty then you are good to go.

I would either want a discount (to a comparable Camaro) or an extended warranty personally. Otherwise, I'd find one that hasn't had to have extensive repairs done to it already.

Go for it, your bumper-to-bumper warranty is still intact and powertrain picks up where that leaves off. These cars are designed to be almost plug-and-play (not quite, but almost) and a good, thorough tech could turn that job in 1-2 days with NO issues. I know the reputation that dealers have, but the reality is that only an ASE certified heavy line tech will get that job. We have two at the dealership I work for and both are ASE Certified Master Techs.

They are asking 37k for the car certified pre owned with a maintenance plan what do you think is a fair price guys it has 5k miles on it excluding the new engine. I was thinking 35k is reasonable offer am I in the right ballpark?

It happens, I had an 08 GMC Sierra, a DOD lifter failed at 3K. New motor. I traded that truck in at 90K.

I wanted to add: I didnt buy a 12 zl1 that I couldve bought for 34k, for 2 reasons 1. distance and couldnt inspect 2. Car fax noted damage on left right and rear fender. The owner indicated they were scratched and he had them buffed out, but the way carfax wrote it up, scared me off to not want to mess with the car, even know it was probably more than fine, especially seeing it had less than 10k miles on it. |

Thanks Maximus SS I wasn’t aware that an engine replaced at the dealer would show up on the Carfax and possibly hurt future resale value. We plan on keeping the car for a long time but you can’t read the future. I guess we will just talk to the dealer and seee if they can make us an offer we feel is worth the possible future drop in resale value.

I would not take it. It is covered by warranty yes. But, do you have the time and patience to deal with issues? Which is MUCH greater, since engine been replaced by CHevy techs.
Search around. They can barely even do oil changes. Play the sounds normal. OR Cannot replicate the issue game. Gets left in the shop for weeks on end trying to figure out issues. Hell no. |

I wouldn't do it unless you are getting super price. Low, low $30sK. Be patient. Lots of used SSes for sale privately even 1LEs around that price. Be patient and look around. So says the number one most impulsive buyer on the planet.
I have made so many mistakes I regretted later.

1) If it’s the car you want, seriously consider it.
2) It has the full warranty so you’re covered. 3) Bring the price closer to $32K before tax OTD. Repaired GM authorized 2SS buy backs are going for around that price and there’s no difference between them and the car you’re interested in. 4) Enjoy! Something to note, there’s a fairly decent chance that Carfax will not denote the degree of repair work thereby retaining the vehicle’s value. Also won’t show as a buy back and the title for the vehicle will not be a branded/salvage title. If you can get the price lower before talking on the maintenance plan and taxes, I say go for it! You’ll love the ride. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
