could be a couple of reasons. superman might have red kryptonite on him. another version is Lex Luthor and Brainiac hold the bottle city of Kandor to ransom and make Superman their personal errand boy, so Batman and some of the JLA work together to take him down.

edit: just realized lex and braniac could have also used the red kryptonite, so that might just be the reason. lol who knows...

Seems like Superman would win hands down. I mean, he is a god like alien and Batman is a dude with some cool toys. Superman versus Hulk would be pretty awesome. lol

When it comes down to it, and superman had to live, he would just destroy the whole planet to kill batman. he doesn't need earth. just the sun. lol So I agree, superman would win.

They seriously need to put an end to the notion that batman could last 10 seconds let alone beat superman. DC finally got it right when they started the New 52 comics and batman tries to challenge superman in one of the first Justice League issues and gets owned royally. Heck he even had green lantern helping him and lost quickly and badly.

I read when it was first announced that it will be based on the comic The Dark Knight Returns.

In the comic, a terrorist group launches a kryptonite infused atomic bomb at the US. Superman diverts the bomb into an uninhabited area of the US but the result is an EMP burst that practically sends the US back into the stone age and also severely weakens Superman for an extended period of time, almost making him human. This in turns causes massive mayhem everywhere. Batman, with some help, turns Gotham into the safest city in the US which ruffles some feathers of some high ranking government officials. These officials convince the still weakened Superman that Batman has become evil and tell Superman to kill him. Because Superman is still weakened and because Batman has some kryptonite on him, Batman is able to go toe to toe for a bit but still gets overpowered and eventually dies.

Batman Dead End blew me away when I first saw it. It was so awesome!! I'd love to see a full length movie based on it.
