Gotta love this scene, the only part where "Tombstone" is a better film than "Wyatt Earp" IMO:

I have disagree on the Wayatt Earp comment. Tombstone is a far better movie and Kurt Russell was far more convincing. I think the scene at the train station when he said "tell them hell is coming" was very powerful. One of my favorite movies ever for sure. For sure the best movie Val Kilmer every
Did. He was very good as Doc. |

I don't care if it is historically accurate or not, Tombstone is a great movie.

Kurt Russell's Wyatt Earp look was very close to the real Earp. Whereas Dennis Quaid's Doc Holliday was more close to what the real Holliday looked like.
Tombstone is probably one of the best movie's in the modern western. It's got amazing one-liners and impeccable acting. However, Costner's Wyatt Earp had more of that historical epic feel that he captured in Dances With Wolves. Which in my opinion makes it the better "overall" movie of the two. It was the better package of the two. Tombstone was the better entertainment movie. Can't be beaten in terms of entertainment value and quality acting. I will say this about Costner, Dances With Wolves, Wyatt Earp, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Open Range all have that "Epic" movie feel. Not many actors can project that into what they are acting in. For me, the ultimate Epic movie is Ben Hur(Heston). I, continually compare all movie epics to it. Several of Costner's flicks I can put into that category. I just can't do that with Tombstone. I will say this, Tombstone is quite possibly Kurt Russell's magnum opus of his films.

Sadly a made for TV movie, but "Purgatory" was a well done piece if you like westerns and stories of redemption:
