Anyone else closing out their Chase account?

First thing Monday morning I am!

"we are temporarily limiting ATM withdrawals in the United States to $100 per day and purchases to a total of $300 a day." (For those who shopped at Target)

And yes I do need to spend north of $300 several days a week and yes I do need to withdraw over $100 quite often.

Has me very heated tbh.

There have been some who have had their bank accounts wiped out because of the breech with Target. They are doing it for your protection, although a temporary inconvenience, a responsible move on their part.

It's more to cover for themselves. Those limits are far too low for a few days before Christmas.

I'm not sure what you mean by covering for themselves, they did not cause the problem. It is an inconvenience but if you loose everything because they took no steps you would feel much different about the restriction. Calculate your cash needs and withdraw from the bank not the atm's until it's straightened out.

Sorry but this is the downside of using a debit visa /mc. I think this is a great move by Chase.

I didnt cause the problem either but will be punished for 2+ weeks? By having these extreme limits they are covering themselves from larger headaches and liabilities. Looking out for themselves which is understandable but their finances mean nothing to me.

I'm in the same situation with Chase, but I prefer this over having my account emptied. Of course they are also covering themselves...since they insure any unauthorized transactions. There are ways to temporarily work around the inconvenience, although I wonder if Chase will find a more permanent solution.

I'm not just being an internet hero here...Chase might be having some troubles much larger than the Holidays would account for.

I could be wrong...I hope I'm wrong. But remember this problem in months to come

It hurts them more than you, they loose fees and interest for thousands if not millions of customers not one, there losses are significant, your problem is an inconvenience. I understand your frustration but also understand their actions. By the way, these types of breeches are why I have no ATM or debit cards and never plan to.

For your personal concerns of needing more money you could change banks. But don't blame Chase for this. If you want to blame a large company start with Target. And if you are going to make a change why not stop shopping at a store that cannot protect your financial information. Chase is doing nothing wrong here.

No Chase account here...

But, this is the one occasion where I'm glad I'm poor. The check card I used at Target, which I'll be canceling tomorrow, only has $22.00 behind it. So if they do get me, won't be for much.

As someone who makes a living in cyber security, this makes complete sense. I'm sure you have another card or another way to access your money besides an atm. If you really think that your account isn't worth protecting, then call them and ask them to override the control on the account

It also appears from what I've seen is that it's only with high risk accounts which I would think means those that have been previously used at Target

This is because of Target. I avoid shopping there because...well, it's Target.

These cards got hacked because of Target. Because...well, it's Target.
