Nismo vs DH vs Supra

Interesting comparison. Wondering where the SS 1LE would have placed. I think it would have been 1st.

I think the SS 1LE would have probably competed, but if they were struggling to get Pirellis to stay hot, the Cup tires on the 1LE would have been in the same boat too...

Great comparison.

The DH is faster vs the SLE for sure, but it's using 180tw tires that cost about 2x as much as the SLE's GY SC3s. And at it's weight it's going to go through A LOT of tires and brakes. Like the S550 PP2, the cost of consumables doesn't make sense for the car when used on track. If you can afford to track the DH or PP2 Mustang, you can also afford a much better car to start with.

Out those 3 I'd take the Supra for sure and put on coilovers and wider wheels and tires. The Nissan is a joke, it probably also oil starves in sweepers like the older versions to go along with it's fuel starvation and overheating.

I was shocked to see the Supra win. While they did state it was damp, the track was only what I would consider somewhat damp from what I saw in the video. Because of this I think an SS 1le on RE71’s or the Mustangs Trofeo tires may have come in first.

Generally when looking up track times the 1le outperforms Supras however the super car 3’s are more aggressive than what Supra’s come with from the factory.

The SS 1LE is roughly the same in terms of straight line speed as the Supra, I don't know that it would necessarily have won if the heat in the tires can't be kept.

Great video, thanks Savagegeese. I wasn’t surprised that the Nismo Z took up the rear in all categories, it’s an under baked car with bones dating back 21+ years (chassis was probably designed in the 90s or early 2000s). And fuel starvation at 1/2 tank?? Pathetic. I think the Supra isn’t tuned for those R compound tires so it is fast, but the handling is tuned for summer tires so it’s not dialed in. I was a little surprised the Supra was about a 1/2 sec quicker than the Dark Horse, as the RE 71 RS tires need heat as well. Maybe the Trofeo RS are a little more sensitive to it. A Supra with a more aggressive aero package would be a force. Medium size wing and front splitter, wider wheels/tires and slightly stiffer suspension (and a 40-50 hp bump while I’m wishing)…I’d call it a Supra R.

I like that the Supra weighed 3,361 lbs with a 51.5/48.5 front/rear weight dist (more than 300 lbs lighter than the Z which had nearly 57% weight on front). The DH was 3,988 lbs, btw, with a 54/46 weight dist. I was surprised at how much more mid torque the Z made over the Supra. But it fell off quicker than the Supra also.

And the Supra trunk is plenty large enough for daily driving. I’ve said this before the more I see the Dark Horse in video the more I seem to like it—it’s a good looking car from the exterior. But not for $73k as tested…

Ha, we can hope; but from the spy pics it looks more like an aesthetics package over an actual functional downforce package.

For sure the Camaro SS1LE would have beat those 3 cars. They should have brought an SS1LEto the challenge

I love the Savageeese tests/reviews, but it irks me that they only ever tested the ZLE and not the SS 1LE. They complained the ZLE had too much power to use for roads and was just simply overkill. The SS 1LE would so much better fit the role of balanced car for the track and the road (or at least better than the ZLE) that they seem to be looking for, and would still likely be more impressive to them than a lot of the other cars they test.

I agree. I think they would really appreciate the 1LE. I think I recall them stating on a livestream over the summer that they might have a 1LE video sometime.

That being said, the Supra is truly impressive to me, primarily due to it's low weight+ tuning potential of that motor. With the new 6MT option I would rank it over the Nismo.

I think the 1LE 6MT vs a 6MT supra would be a great comparison, and it would ultimately come down to overall 'feel' which is often a bit subjective.

It's a bit too late for that, they filmed the ZL1 1LE review in December 2017...

I was referring to the regular SS 1LE, not the ZLE

I cross shopped both accept I was shopping the ZF 8 speed Supra vs M6 1le. While I prefer manuals, I ain’t paying extra money for one as throughout the history of cars the manual has always been the cheaper option. I’m not paying extra to have the slower version of my car haha. Anyway I woulda bought the Supra if I didn’t believe it would be difficult to hop back in a V8 car when I was done with the Supra. I love my 1le and it’s probably the better car but would absolutely love to own a Supra one day.
