GM Q1 2023 Sales Up 17.6%; 603,208 Units Sold

U.S. Q1 Sales: Off to a Great Start
General Motors

April 3, 2023

General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) and its dealers delivered 603,208 vehicles in the U.S., up 18%, in the first quarter of 2023, growing market share by an estimated 1.5 points, the largest of any automaker.

GM delivered a strong start to the year with sales of more than 20,000 EVs as it scales production of vehicles on the Ultium Platform, and expanded truck leadership with launches of new HD and midsize pickup trucks.

Man there are a lot of people out there with money to burn.

84% of Sierra HD orders are either Denali or AT4 us and impressive number. I guess there's a reason why both Local GMC dealers are full of Denali 1500s and maybe 1 or 2 Elevation trims. The SLTs have disappeared too, and I have seen one SLE on the road since the redesign.

GM had a very good quarter. Buick especially. And now that cash in hoods has returned to some dealers it could get even better Q2

They look like big percentages over 1st qtr of '22....Compared to 4th qtr '22 not so much. Totals and percentages look much lower for most everything, even the Silverados. That's what I'm seeing. I don't think it's as rosy as press release shows. Still a lot of hype about what EVs may someday be...but for now, eh. I think Lyriq has 10 commercials for every car sold in '23 so far.

Big money guys get bonus' in early months.

That is why good investors look at overall history. And not knee jerk 1/4s

But I suck at money, so what the hell do I know.

Its pretty hard to justify cutting an ICON again when its sales are increasing hence no mention.

(notice when they started plugging RS trim on TV ads there was no Camaro in the shot)

Even with the increase the Camaro is still number 3 in the pony car wars.

The segment leader was Dodge and they announced their exit a year ago.

Its the end of the best muscle car power wars ever.

This era easily tops 1964 to 1972 as these cars can do it all well

Are these figures 22 and 23 model years combined? I recall seeing several ads on "sales" of new GM vehicles recently with the smaller print next to the offer saying the deal was for 2022 model year. You know, the ones that sat in the shipping lots for months waiting on chips they're finally getting around to finishing?

If they sell even 15 cars that's probably an uptick from last year it seems. The local Chevy dealer's lots were barren for months and months of new vehicles. They're now getting stocked back up but they're wary of getting too many cars. But they have a bunch of trucks nobody seems to want.

I believe all the big percentage increases touted in the press release are for the first quarter of '23 compared to the first quarter of '22.

(First quarter of '23 compared to the last quarter of '22, which they do not show, I believe the sales numbers are down overall in comparison.}

Would be interesting to see of all those high dollar vehicles how many people are paying 7,8 year loans to keep the payments lower. How many people get them repossessed. Just because you take one of them off the lot does not mean you have a lot of money to burn. Could simply mean you are living over your means.

Nobody reports sales this way. It's always monthly YOY or quarterly YOY.

I would imagine most of these are leases. Not that many people who can actually afford to burn 80k+ on these trucks.

The number of Denalis isn’t a new thing, though. Back in 2019 Denali trims made up over 60% of GMC sales.

Yeah, that's how they do it. I miss the monthly sales numbers. But looking at back to back quarters covers a period of six months. Is there some law against it? I think its a valid comparison...."90503 Reporting"...lol
