Toyota seems to be one of the only companies run by actually smart people who have resisted drinking the Kool Aid.

From their website, a refreshing bit of truth and common sense.

Been saying that about Toyota for a good while now. It just makes more sense.

Yeah, you can say "well Toyota is saying that because they went all in on hybrid drive vehicles and are behind the curve on full EV" and maybe that is partially true. But still...it don't matter...again, it just makes more sense.

We need more of what Toyota is offering plus more developments in E-fuels. Cheaper, full EV's (with smaller batteries that get a couple hundred miles of range tops) for city drivers. Hybrids for those that don't want to deal with range anxiety but still offers huge cuts to tailpipe emissions, and E-fuels for working vehicles or ICE vehicles.

Is proposed E-fuel not setting off anyone's scam detector? It does for me.

GM joins the Tesla-plug party.

Ditching CCS for NAC's.

Now they're practically giving Tesla's away

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla...141823296.html

Cliff Notes -

Starting price - $40,240

Federal Tax Rebate - $7,500

California Tax Rebate - $7,500

Tesla SoCal Incentive - $2,410

Final Price - $22,830

When the government has to try that hard to get people to buy something....

Just wait until the per mile tax comes for EVs. Then they’ll do gas cars on top of gas tax.

First of all, I would be the first to say that some version of Toyota's approach to maintaining hybrids and plug-ins is a better strategy than going all in on EVs. And at the end of the day, it's the way it is likely going to end up, even for GM and BMW and the others that say 100% by 2035. But on the other hand, Toyota's detailed explanations of why hybrids are a better solution than EVs is spin purposed to slow the growth of EVs to allow them to catch up. And also to extend the life of hybrid vehicles in the market because they have a commanding lead there. Do not under-estimate the weight of the last line of the article.

Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda tests high-performance full-electric sports car
The only thing missing from the electric prototype is 'the smell of gasoline,' Toyoda said.

LE MANS, France — Toyota Motor Corp.’s Gazoo racing arm has developed a full-electric sports car that aims to show EVs can be just as exhilarating to drive as fast gasoline models.

Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda tested a prototype of the car, which looks like a battery-electric model, but offers the driving sensation of an internal combustion engine vehicle.

“You hear the engine noise inside the car and you have a manual transmission with a clutch," Toyoda said on the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race June 10. "You truly do not notice you are driving an electric car — the only thing missing is the smell of gasoline."

Toyoda said a decision on whether the GR electric sports car will be brought to market has not been made.

If it goes into series production, the Gazoo car could be the pinnacle of Toyota’s electrification push, just as the GranTurismo Folgore high-performance coupe is for Maserati and production models derived from the Mission X hypercar are for Porsche.

Toyota so far has lagged in the electrification age, launching its midsize battery-electric bZ4X SUV in 2021, followed last year by the similarly sized Lexus RZ.

Despite being the world's largest automaker, the company produced just 24,000 Toyota and Lexus brand EVs worldwide in 2022, compared with the 1.31 million EVs sold by Tesla.

Toyota plans to sell 3.5 million EVs a year by 2030.

New rule of thumb for EVs: Whenever one is "revealed" years before it is actually for sale with a "starting price", just ad 50% or more on top of the bs reveal price.

"Ford Motor plans to lay off at least 1,000 salaried employees and contract workers in North America, people familiar with the matter said, the automaker’s latest effort to defray the heavy cost of investing in electric cars.

…This latest reduction of Ford’s white-collar workforce includes employees in its electric-vehicle and software side of the business, the company spokesman confirmed.

…For traditional automakers, boosting profit margins on the internal-combustion side of the business has become a crucial focus, because the profitability of EVs is expected to be skimpy for several years as companies scale up output and work to reduce battery costs, analysts say. Farley said last month that the cost of making an EV might not be equal to that of internal-combustion vehicles until after 2030."

"Volkswagen is temporarily cutting back production of e-cars at its Emden plant due to flagging sales, according to the works council...According to the works council, the reason for the production cuts is flagging sales of e-vehicles. “We are noticing customer reticence quite vehemently in the electric world,” Wulff said. Uncertainty among customers is high, he said. Demand is nearly 30 percent below the originally planned production figures"
