The economy is fine, our dollar is down against the USD.

This is great for our manufacturers and exporters but sucks for imports or anything paid in USD...like sports salaries.

I thought the Canadian Entertainment Tax was ridiculously high as well, and pro sports teams were subject to it.

I sometimes get the idea that the NHL braintrust wants Canada out of the picture.

Wrong...the Canadian economy never came close to what happened in the USA. Would you pay $200 plus per ticket to see any hockey game. All the Canadians in Florida are should get the credit for the attendence numbers.

Did you know it would take half a billion, that's Billion with a B, just to have a team there. Meaning Vegas will have to pay the NHL $500 millions just to have team recognized there. This will not pay for the stadium, the players, the gear, the promoting of the team just the rights to have a team there . Who would spend that much money just to have a hockey team in the desert?! I guess if you want to waste the money go for it but its still ridiculous.

Las Vegas would not exist if everybody spent their money sensibly.

So when your in Florida with so many Canadians in the winter ....what are they going to do? Right....go to a hockey game for cheap.....end result is good attendence

Around here, its common to hop the border to Buffalo to catch a game. Probably similar story with Windsor-Detroit.

I've even heard that when our dollar was above par it was sometimes cheaper to fly down to Florida, watch a game there, and fly back than it was to get tickets in Toronto. Not sure how many did a quick down and back just to watch the Leafs, but I bet it was more than 0.

Some Sabres fans almost pay for their season seats by just reselling the Leafs and Habs tickets.

Eh, half a billion dollars is not that much money here in vegas. Especially in a town full of casinos/hotels that make 100's of millions a year, individually. Also, there's already a brand new stadium/arena built. T-Mobile arena. Opened April this year.
