EAGLE F1's

So, this is GM's stock choice for my '17 2SS. I Googled them and the reviews are extremely unfavorable. People couldn't get them off their car fast enough!

What's your experience with the Eagle F1' s? Should I be concerned about handling if it rains?

I have had them since December on my 2016 SS, I think they are phenominal tires, a lot of people who are changing them out are not very well informed and are changing them for the wrong reasons.

Great dry, warm weather tire. Excellent traction on the streets and they give a very confident feel while driving. Fair in the rain and horrible in the cold. Burned them off in 13k miles of daily driving.

Good performance on the track for their level. Will not buy run flats again due to road noise

In Houston it rains fairly often, I fill no traction during driving in rain with these tires, my 1le replicas will be here Monday and will be mounted with continental extreme contact dws06 tires.

Yep; they're terrible... Really bad... Now that I've talked you out of them please sell them to me. I need an "insurance" set.. So Cal only MUST be low miles.

I am currently looking at tire racks selection.

the Yokohama advan sport and Bridgestone PolePotenza look very delicious.

If you get a flat with your stock tires you will be at the mercy of the dealership and $420 for a single rear replacement.

But yes, the tires are horrible and make rain exciting.

If you have t seen the news, it's always raining here in Baton Rouge.

They're fine...I wouldn't be in a rush to get rid of them. At least use them up don't just toss them.

I replaced the OEM GY's with Conti DWS06's because here in Northern NJ we already get in the 40's and sometimes in the 30's in the morning, with some heavy rain once or twice per week. In these conditions, and in the snow that will come later in winter, the Eagle F1's are not a good tire for the SS.

However, after driving now for a while on the DWS06's, I have to admit that the Eagle F1's are much better as performance tires when it's warm and dry. You feel like there's no limit to the available traction they provide and that the tires never get upset by whatever road surface you meet. You pay that with a much harsher (and noisier) ride, though.

I guess it's all down to where you drive and what you're looking for.

I've been trying to sell the GY's for a while, but I'm currently thinking about getting a set of 20" rims that could fit them and mount them again next summer.

Drove in heavy rain over the weekend. Are they an amazing rain tire? Probably not. That said, I had zero issues driving like a normal person should in the rain. I wouldn't be in any specific rush to toss them, personally.

In very cold temps or snow, which might be a factor given your location, it is certainly not the right class of tire but that isn't a specific indictment against this goodyear model (frame of reference, I nearly killed myself in my STi running a high end bridgestone summer tire in a freak snow a couple years ago). Anyway, I'm assuming that wasn't the intent of your inquiry. I don't think you'll have any real issue with the GY oem tire so long as you use it in appropriate conditions.

I just used the f1's for a 2 day HPDE, and I fully expected them to be junk, but they handled nearly everything that I threw at them, I was only able to get them slippery after over-driving a few long corners. I dont drive much in the rain or cold, so I cant speak for that.

I have a set of the oem tires with 300 miles on them that I will let go fairly cheap. PM me if your interested. I replaced mine with mpss because i needed wider tires for my new rims. I actually thought they were great tires in dry/warm weather. To be honest they got better traction than the mpss when shifting at redline. My traction control never came on in sport mode during a hard 1-2 shift at redline, but with the mpss it comes on if i shift too hard. Could be that the tires only have 200 miles on the so far though.
