Cabin Filter
I want to change the cabin filter on my 2020 Camaro. I’ve watched a couple of YouTube videos, and am wondering if it’s as difficult, as it looks & sounds? Thanks

It's fairly simple to do. Just remember to disconnect the the clip on the side first (the one with the cord on it that lowers the glove box slowly). Believe me, you don't want to have to replace that thing if you break the clip off the cord

I have a 2017 and have yet to change either the cabin or air filters. I do not live in a dusty environment.
I think on my last car I changed these at 90k miles. Mileage and time are meaningless for these things, it's the dirt or particulate load. |

As to the clip/lanyard, do yourself a favor:
Get a length of wire, and attach it to the eye end of the lanyard when you disconnect it from the glovebox door. The lanyard is spring loaded to retract back toward the dash and the end will be a PIA to grab when you're ready to re-attach it to the door unless you have the wire attached to it. Simply pull it out and re-attach when you're ready. |

As stated above, make sure you disconnect the clip with the cord on the right side, and immediately hook something to it so it's easier to fish out when you want to put things back in place. (BTW this one-and-done attachment mechanism is as ghetto as it gets, even older GM cars have proper twist caps inside the glove box... needless to say, the sharp end of the plastic attachment rods will scratch the sides of the glove box as it comes loose, no way to avoid it.)

Get two pry bars that aren’t sharp.

Great idea attaching something to the lanyard. I just replaced mine and it was very easy however I kept losing my hold on the lanyard when re-attaching it and it would slip back behind the glove box forcing me to pry the box back down again to retrieve the lanyard. That won't happen again.

Very easy to do. Lethal Camaro has a video on his youtube channel. It is very easy his way. If you do it the "GM" way it takes so much longer and you have to be a bit of a contortionist to do it.

Found quite a bit of stashed hard dog food on my cabin filter. Replaced filter and never figured out how some rodent found and stored it there since we don’t have a dog. It’s easy with a protected long screwdriver or pry bar.

I found an upgraded filter at Autozone for $26 stp max and watched the video beforehand. It was a lot easier than older threads made it out to be and using one pry bar on the left side it came off fairly quickly. Need a pry bar and some leverage.

Does anyone know where to buy the little black clip attached to the cord on the side? It broke when I detached the string pulling it out. I wasn't even that rough with it.
