Does Anyone Else Accidently Change Drive Modes When Shifting Gears (6M)

This has happened to me several times. Today I had the car in Sport mode and about five minutes later after driving in traffic I looked and I was in S/I mode. The only thing I can think that may have caused the modes to change is that I was wearing a loose fitting jacket and as I shifted it rubbed against the selector and changed the mode.

I'm also still getting used to the manual in this car and it seems that have to reach farther to grab the shifter in this car than I have in other manual cars. Perhaps I'm putting my arm down on the selector as I shift and not realizing it. Anyone else with a manual have this issue?

It only happens when I have a coat on. Otherwise, I don't have any issues with it changing modes.

No issues with my ZL1. Maybe your arm is brushing against the lever on the console.

Yes, this happened to for the first several weeks of ownership, though it was the traction control button. Even though I wasn't resting my hand on the console, when I would shift, the outside edge of my hand just above the wrist would sometimes touch the button. I made a slight change to the way I position my hand when shifting and it stopped happening.

If your instance if it's clothing causing the problem (make sure you aren't resting your arm on the console during or between shifts, as that could easily cause it), then you may need to change what you are wearing.

It's happened a couple times... In a past thread someone made a 3D printed cover, I replied to the thread about it but didn't get a reply back. If anyone has plans for a cover or can make them, I'm in!

That might be my issue too. Now that I think about it I was probably wearing a coat the other times it happened.

Here and there. Short throw shifter doesn’t help.

I hadn't thought about that being the issue. I need to pay more attention to where I'm resting my arm. Thanks for the information. I'm not used to having the drive mode switch on top of the console. It's convenient, but easy to touch inadvertently.

That would be nice to have a way to cover it. Although not as convenient for changing modes.

I have never had this happen. I put my palm on top and push with the heel of my palm and pull with my finger tips. I do not put my palm on the passenger side of the shifter and wrap my fingers around the shifter.

Hmm, I never had this happen, even when on the race track.

I was gonna suggest the cover but that doesn't seem to be getting anywhere, as mentioned above. At least if they share the 3D printer file, then you could ask a friend or a shop to print it for you.

I've hit the button once or twice when I've got my arm on the shifter at a light or something. Might explain why I had it in tour mode a few days ago.

I tend to rest my hand sometimes on the console area, and have had it happen often enough, I now make a conscious effort to not put my arm anywhere near that dang rocker switch.

I've done it in my A10 a couple times, even.
