Has anybody else had problems when you shift from 1st to 2nd gear?

Trying to figure out if im the only Camaro owner that is having hard shifts when I go from 1st to 2nd gear. Are there any solutions for this?

Mine got hard to shift after a while, especially when cold. Changed the tranny fluid and it was back to being smooth again.

I think my shift issues were more 2-3 only in auto sport. Paddle shifting and tour mode give me zero issues. As do any other gear. When mentioned to dealer they shrugged me off as “they had only seen one 10L90 with burnt clutches” as if that was to convince me my tranny was flawless.. lol

I think as Sengli pointed out, it takes a good bit of driving to warm up the a10. I’ve started to speculate that I never drive my car enough distance, I would say it takes about 20-25 miles of driving AFTER a warm up cycle for my trans temp to even hit 125-135 this time of year. But I don’t drive unless it’s 45* or warmer

First of all, which trans do you have, the A8 or the M6?

Assuming the A8 (not the A10 because your sig says you have a 2016 Camaro), it did receive a service bulletin about the first shift after a cold start, see below. Also make sure you have the latest transmission fluid that introduced in Jan 2019 to prevent transmission shudder, the service bulletin for that issue is 18-NA-355, flushing the A8 with the new fluid is a warranty service.

Next time you can tell the dealer you don’t actually have the 10L90…

The 10L80 is a different animal (and is actually what you have).

If you’re talking about the Auto 8 Speed (A8) then yes I’ve had it. It took some tuning from the dealer to fix it.

This is a known issue with the A8 that has been extensively covered in this forum. I never bothered to have the dealer "Tune it out" because the hard 1st to 2nd shift only happens when the trans is cold. And this hard shift, for the most part, can be avoided by being gentle on the accelerator pedal easing up right after ist gear engages.

The A8 is a track-ready heavy-duty transmission. It's a brute and it can be temperamental at times. Very much like 1970s muscle car automatics is what the A8 reminds me of. That old muscle car feel in a modern platform.

I have an A8. I had the 3 flushes done and had to get a new catalytic converter on my car over the past 2 years because of the shudder problem but I noticed the shudder more in the higher gears. Im wondering if this hard shift from 1st to 2nd has to do with that still or if this a whole new problem now. Has anybody gotten the catalytic converter installed and still had problems later on with the shudder problem?

Hold up, wait, so you’re saying that an emissions part, which only burns up unburned fuel is the reason why your auto transmission is acting up? Someone is blowing bad smog up yours. I believe you got ripped off buying a catalytic for a transmission problem. It’s like me getting a new inhaler, because my knee hurts.

So ease up right before 1st gear goes into 2nd gear or ease up when I go from 0-5 mph? I usually feel it shift when I hit about 10 mph.

GM covered the catalytic converter under warranty but I still had to pay the deductible of $100 dollars I think it was. It was actually a GM dealer that recommended the catalytic converter to me if the three flushes didnt work to solve the shudder problem.

That’s nice of them, they also helped me out years ago. Sounds like a Hail Mary approach. It maybe a transmission problem, rather than an emissions problem.
