1979 corvette help

I need some help in identifying an old corvette that popped out in one of my local dealers and its hard to find solid evidence on what the car has and the thing is it does not have a 17-digit VIN(pre-1981).Frankly I don't know if the transmission is the 3-speed or 4-speed automatic.

I have no idea if this car is a rare gem or a diamond a dozen

some details
VIN - 1Z8749S424117

L82 5.7L V8

Corvette yellow exterior

light beige interior

Options include: PS, PB, PW, PDLOCKS, COLD A/C, Cruise control, tilt/tele column, GM Glass T-Tops with Blue tint, AM/FM 8 track stereo, D80 F/R spoilers, FE7 Gymkana suspension, N90 Aluminum wheels, dual rear speakers, Power antenna ZX2 convenience pkg, 255-60x15 tires.

In ‘79 it would have been a 3 speed automatic. They didn’t start using the 4 speed auto until 1980.

Most Corvettes by 1980 were built fully loaded as GM was trying to hold interest in it due to the drop in performance after ‘73. A Corvette with manual windows and no A/C was great when you had a 427 and no emission controls what so ever. After the malaise era kicked in they needed something to keep people buying it. That’s really how it became the high tech car we’ve known it for the last 20+ years for. It wasn’t always that way.

It's either a TH350 or TH400. My money is on the 350 though...

Look at the tranny pan and match it with this:

I would think also that the trans is a TH350 because of the 350 engine. At least that’s the way I remember them being from the factory.

1979 was still the "dark ages" for Corvettes, no horsepower, no collectability and minimal value. People buy them for 2 to 3 grand, sink 10-15 grand into them and end up having a car worth 5 grand.

To the OP, if you are interested in this car that's all that matters. Stock it's a cruiser with great looks. 1979 stands as the highest numbers for production. There is a strong restoration and modification body of support. Corvette forum and corvette action center are 2 online communities.

I am pretty sure the fastest American vehicle in 78-79 was actually a truck which was the Lil Red wagon Dodge Pickup W/ 360 and It benefited with less emissions applied
