AWE catback install / dyno at Weapon X today
Had the pleasure of being at Weapon X in Cincinnati today. Awesome bunch of guys. They installed my AWE non res touring catback with performance link pipes. It sounds fantastic. A LOT louder than I was expecting. I'm so glad I didn't get the track setup. I wouldn't call the system drone free. It's not bad though. If you lug it in top gear you will get some cabin resonance. There's some coming up through the gears at part throttle as well. It's about as much as i would put up with. Any louder and I'd have to ad the resonators and/ or secondary cats back in. It sounds absolutely BRUTAL when you roll into it or floor it. I had them poke the tips out a bit to see how I liked the look. I don't know if I will keep it like that or not. Easy to change.
I was curious what my AFR was with my current mods so I had them do a couple dyno runs while I was there. Only mods - Rotofab dry Cai, Tony Mamo ported throttle body, and awe touring catback with no resonators and performance link pipes. Found something strange during the dyno pulls. You can see a dip in the graph around 4000 rpm. It's showing the throttle closing a good amount. Blake said he was staying in it the whole time. Did it on all three pulls. No clue what's going on there. First pull was 605 rwhp. Next was 602 rwhp, 571rwtq. AFR hung around 12.5 which I was happy with. Very perplexed by the throttle issue though. Again I want to thank weapon x. I will definitely be doing some more mods through them come spring. One of the dyno runs in link below. And I have no idea how to turn some of the pics above to be oriented correctly.

The more I'm on this forum the more I'm tempted to get their exhaust!
Does it give any decel pop? That's the one thing I miss that I had in my '14 SS. |

you should Dynamat the lower trunk and it will kill just about all your drone noise. My car has a issue with shutting the throttle during dyno pulls also.

The dip is cat over temp kicking in and dumping extra fuel. The stock tune is stupid sensitive with this.

BTW, that carbon trunk lid with the integrated wing is f___ing killer.

Your car still has primary cats. My bet is you put the stock TB back on and you won't have that dip. |

That doesn’t really look like COT kicking in to me, though if this car is on the stock tune it is still likely very much active. The car doesn’t know or care if there are cats in the exhaust. It’s simply an algorithm, and unless you tune the ECM and turn COT off, it’s going to show up. It’s probably the AFR dip at 3000 RPM or so. Looks like it was at about 11.5 after that.
These engines do weird things when it comes to the throttle. Probably some kind of torque management stepping in. |

Sent you a PM with some Weapon X questions.... thinking about some modest mods over the winter and would appreciate your thoughts. The black tips look perfect on your car!

Nice write up! I for sure appreciate the honest review on the exhaust. Adding those resonators will eliminate a ton of that drone if it gets out of hand for you. Those secondary cats are in a prime location unfortunately and when you add volume, you’re adding vibration. I second the recommendation on trunk dynamat. I did it on previous vehicles and it helped out a lot.
