Crazy OnStar Experience

We just bought a 2015 2LT Camaro 2 weeks ago, Sunday I was cleaning the windows AND rear view mirror. When the wet paper towels touched the onstar mirror a voice came on asking what is my emergency. I said NOTHINg I'm cleaning my mirror! Woman says I'm calling the cops!<just like that! I thought she was nuts! 10 mins later the state cops pull in my driveway blocking the car in. Gets out and asks where did I get this car???? I reply at the dealer yesterday..............I told him I was cleaning the mirror and what she said. Paper towels were still sitting on the console. Cop says we are looking for a stolen blk Camaro and were chasing it.............I'm like well this aint it!

Cops tells me "don't touch that button again"!

The OnStar unit now resides in the local landfill!

well obviously that stolen Camaro didn't have its On*Star activated otherwise they would have found it, lol.

Does anyone ever keep it active? I haven't had mine active since 2010.

I have never paid for OnStar service, but I have also never deactivated it as such on any of my rides. Never had an issue with any of them.

You hit the OnStar button on accident; OnStar operator asked what the emergency was, didn't get a response, announced 'help' was being sent, still no response, 'help' was sent .. Seems to me, OnStar did what should have been done.

I applaud the State Police that showed up. There may have been a disconnect with the OnStar operator, and there may have been user error. But at the very least, support thought they were doing their due diligence. Funny how we complain about inconvenient conveniences.

That's crazy. I understand that they were looking for a stolen black Camaro, but wow. I guess it was a 2015 black 2LT that was stolen, but you'd think that they'd have a VIN for insurance or something to be able to tell them that your car wasn't it.

Nope, 2 GM vehicles and neither have OnStar activated.

As for as they can find your vehicle? Maybe the amateur thief stealing it, but professionals will get rid of that OnStar system fairly easily making the car untraceable...Besides, would you want your stolen car back? Usually its either wrecked or butchered unless they find it within a day or 2.

It was cool back in November 2010 to call up and have them send directions to the Camaro...but it quickly wore off and so much new technology. Was gone around June 2011, lol.

OnStar Sucks!
We had it in wife's car for emergencies. On two separate occasions we needed to rush to hospital because of our grand children. We defiantly considered it emergency situations. Both times they sent directions for wrong facilities. On one occasion needed to drive several hours to another state. Route sent would have taken us several more hours. They had sent a route going to Nebraska first.
Two words "Google Maps"

Whats even crazier is that onstar unit will continue to send its location for 4 years IN THE LANDFILL! It doesn't need a antenna connected to it to broadcast its location and the lithium battery lasts appr 4 years. Talk about something made to track you..........THIS IS IT! and it doesn't need to be activated by you, its always on.

I hope the cops chased the garbage truck to the landfill too.

People think you just unplug it and its dead, NOT TRUE it has battery backup and need no ant connected to it!
