MSD 2 Step (PN 8733)

I'm looking to pick this module up but I'm confused a bit on the install. Do I need to buy something separate in order to prevent it from activation during gear shifts or does it do it automatically? I'm asking this because the install instructions mention a clutch switch but it doesn't say anything about coming with one. If anyone has this same controller and knows how it works I would appreciate the help. Thanks.
Here's the link and the install instructions: http://www.msdignition.com/Products/...h_Control.aspx

I have one I bought for my vette before selling it. I'm currently about to install it. The MSD will not activate during shifting. The rpm's need to drop 1/3 of the set activation rpm's in order to kick in.

On most cars you would be able to wire the system into the clutch switch. The Camaro and Corvette have a can bus clutch position sensor that apparently you can't use to activate the system. Basically wiring into the clutch switch on our cars will cause it to work backwards. It'll limit rpm's when the clutch pedal is up but not down.

So in order to install it on our cars you need to get a micro switch and find a way to mount it under the clutch. I've also heard of people doing a push button set up. I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount my micro switch. If I can't find an easy way I'll have to do a push button.

That sucks. So without it it would limit the RPMs during normal driving I'm assuming? Where can I get a micro switch?

It will only do that if you install it by tying it into the clutch switch like the instructions say. So ignore the factory clutch switch option.

You can get the micro switches all over the internet just Google micro switch. Then install that so it is pressed down when the clutch is pressed down. You hook one end of the switch to the blue wire coming out of the msd box. Then you run a ground wire from the other side of the switch. When the switch is pressed down it completes the circuit and activated the rpm limiter.

Huh okay. I don't understand why they would sell an LS based 2 step that requires other parts in order to make it work. What would I need for a push button setup? That just sounds easier.

A push button switch and a long enough wire to run it to where you want it installed.

Here is a post that shows the micro switch setup. They cost $2-$15 I think. The hard part is making a bracket that will hold it. Check post 6.

There is also the lingenfelter setup that is more plug and play. You can also do no lift shifting with that one.

Is this the lingenfelter model? http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merc...3#.VTs2HlwkSZM It seems it isn't plug and play because it says "If you are triggering off of the clutch switch, the 2-Step will trigger each time you depress the clutch pedal. This can be used to provide an ignition cut/torque cut on each gear change to potentially allow for faster shifts/faster clutch engagement.

If you do not want the 2-Step to trigger when you engage the clutch pedal once you are moving then you will need to install a momentary switch or use the Lingenfelter MPH activated switch. With the MPH activated switch you can set at what MPH you want the 2-Step activation to be disabled."

They also sell this product. Could this make the MSD module work? I really appreciate the help. http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merc...3#.VTs1vVwkSZM

I'm not sure too much about the lingenfelter stuff. I do believe that the second link can be used to aid in the install of the msd 8733.

I just installed my MSD launch controller this afternoon. I used the Lingenfelter Ctap-001 along with their plug and play harness. The plug on the clutch position sensor was a pain to get to. You can't see it, so you just have to feel around for it. Once the breakout harness is plugged in, the purple wire on the Ctap hooks to it. The orange wire on the Ctap hooks to the MSD box. I used the 12V source, so I used the blue and white wire on the MSD box. I have the red wire on the Ctap hooked to a switch with a 12v fused power source going to it. The only other connection needed is the black wire on the Ctap gets hooked to a ground.

So you used the LPE Ctap, MSD controller, and the LPE harness?

I just got my micro switch installed. Had a friend weld a bracket that mounts to the 2 screws at the top of the clutch pedal. If you look under the dash behind the clutch pedal you'll see the bolts I'm talking about. Then off that piece of metal he welded a piece that came down a little and bent it so the switch lines up with the back of the top of the clutch pedal. I'll try to post a couple pics up tomorrow.
