CAI?

What do you think is the best CAI for the SS and why? Know this has most likely been asked before but really interested to here folks thoughts on this.

Here is the only answer you will get in a round a bout way.

"The one on my car is the best for no real reason other than it is on my car."

As long as you are buying a quality name brand one like CAI, Vararam, K&N etc they are all really about the same.

I think this subject came up one other time.

Or a GM part called the, Z/28 CAI, probably because someone thought that sounded really cool and sorta matched that car name from yesteryear. I think they resurrected the car sometime back but it was a big flop. LOL.

I tend to think a dealer looks the other way if you need to go there and a GM part is on the car. But I am a republican and could be certifiably insane. And I approve this message.

I like the look of the kits from Cold Air Inductions. They come with a silver mylar insulation on the inside of the airbox that helps keep the heat from the engine bay away from the filter. And they have a window on the top of the box so you can look through it and see your conical filter!

I have a K&N. It turns out you can get the same mylar at the hardware store and the adhesive. Mine has the mylar insulation lining the inside and the outside of the box. The idea was to give it twice the heat insulation than a unit from CAI. I haven't brought myself to separate myself from my filter by a plate window yet, but I just don't know how much any of it matters to me. I'll stick with what I have for now. May go Rotofab one day..

I’ve always been perplexed as to why this is the red headed stepchild of CAI’s. It’s a bolt-on, GM direct fit, seals on the stock hood, with strong MAF and made for the vehicle. But I guess modders are gonna mod. You really should probably buy something that looks like it’s made for every car, not your car. Again, I must be nuts. Certainly your call.

Problem is the z/28 intake is over $500 and when I checked jegs the site said unavailable.

To me, aftermarket CAI's work pretty much the same. So it really depends on your budget and brand preference.

More like 5000 threads about CAI's. It's one of the few repeat threads that comes up more often than "what is your cars name?"

I would suggest you use the search function and you will find more information on CAI's than you could read in a year.

Well for me, there were 2 reasons I didn't go with the Z28... 1.) it's more expensive and 2.) It's not near as cool looking as the CAI or RotoFab. That elbow is Just my $.02

Same reason and decision I made when looking for a CAI. For my car, I will never be able to see/feel the 200 dollar price difference. The elbow on the CAI is very impressive. It is the one piece on my car I wished came in mirror chrome.

With very few exceptions in this world, you get what you pay for. At least that’s been my experience and my experience is generally gained the HARD way! Pretty easy to piss away $200 on some other long forgotten items. IMO.

Why does GM say that it doesn't fit the L99? Did you have any install issues, or have to modify it in anyway?
