Is the constraint on any new vette option for ANY type of vette or is it separated into hardtop and vert? Does the factory only build hard tops on one day and verts the next day in batches?

Was this not planned for, seems like after the same thing happened with the c6 and the incredible value of the z51 package this could have been easily predicted...I'm going to die if I dont see my car for several more months.

Do not know about the C5 but the C6 did have Z51 constraints starting several weeks after the beginning of production. I do not recall anyone being surprised when they happened so it could it was also a C5 thing.

Constraint question

Question everybody/anybody: Got a call from my dealer yesterday, I'm #6 order to be going in this month. He told me of the supplier constraint for the Z51. His first 4 orders are in, #5 and mine #6 are being held up.
Either he alluded or I misunderstood, but he said there is a chance that he could lose his last two cars of his first allotment or possibly his entire second allotment if he doesn't get a non-Z51 ordered?!?!
Could this really jeopardize my order?

Yes. When a dealer is told his allocation is there, he either says he will use it or it will be given to another dealer. That is how the system works, a system that has been developed over the years to be as fair as possible to both the big dealers and the little dealers while assuring production is maintained.

Dealers who give up allocation may very well have lost those for the future. (Not may, will, but there are exceptions to how this rule works. Don't ask, I do not fully understand them.)

^ Agree

As an example, one of the local dealers near me has only 1 allocation this week and there are 6 customers in line w/ deposits who all want Z51-equipped cars. But if the dealership is unable to submit a Z51-equipped order due to the current constraint, then that single allocation can still be submitted as long as the order is a non-Z51 unit, so that the dealership will not lose out on their single allocation.

Got the bad news GM didn't accept the order Becky had been working for me last week because of the constraint. until my original order can be processed.

I wonder what kind of time frame a below 3000 status with z51 order will look like now.

Z51 is not a must for me as I will not be tracking it (but I want it ), if it means getting my car before next year I'll heavily consider it.

Per my memory of how the constraint went with the C6, Z51 orders will continue to be on limited constraint for the rest of the model year. Once I got my C6 I only occasionally dipped into the continuing saga of Corvette production, but I am pretty sure it there was a continuing limited constraint for the Z51 option at least to spring of 2005. (March or April I am thinking)

If that package is important and one is not willing to wait a year before taking delivery, you might consider going to those several dealers who dominate Corvette sales. If not, well, you know. The thing is, the rules regarding awarding allocation only apply to the units not to the options, and if you have read many of my previous posts you will know I believe the good options will be awarded to the biggest dealers with just enough exceptions to suppress a possible lawsuit.

Unless one has followed the ordering process, it will be difficult to believe how much and how important lawsuits have influenced the ordering process. And I am not certain any GM official can publicly affirm or refute this statement - that is how much influence litigation has had.

If you really want a ZR1 there is a Torch Red with Black wheels and most options comming in next week to a South Jersey Dealer. Just goto the Chevy wesite and do an inventory search using zip code 08012.

Should that be Z51? I am not certain Corvette is making a ZR1 this model year.

But othewise, this post affirms the point my previous post was trying to make.

is this a ray of hope?

•Z51 Performance Package (Model 1YX*7) severely limited

–Severe limitation should only be in place for the current ordering cycle

–Constraint should improved to between 40% to 55% of production in coming cycles

–Encourage dealers to order standard Stingray (Model 1YY*7) for stock
