Did full car in Plasti Dip

Been thinking about it for a while and decided to try doing my whole car spray wrapped in Plasti Dip. This is my first time doing a full car. It went decently well but there are definitely some screw ups and lessons learned.

Color: Zombie Midnight Flip 15 grams per gallon in Frozen Clear topcoat over a black base. Hood and roof left black (and need some fixing).

That's an interesting approach I wasn't aware of, and looks nice from a distance (I didn't see the errors you mentioned). Thanks for posting.

Is this the equivalent of getting your car vinyl wrapped? Can you peel it off completely at some point without any damage to OEM paint beneath?

That's the idea. As long as you do enough coats it should peel off nicely. Otherwise it can be a pain in the butt to remove. Like, my car was black to begin with but I still did 4+ coats of black base, then 2-3 of the pearl topcoat.

If you have any thin spots when trying to remove just use a tar remover like Stoners tarminator and it will melt it off

Came out pretty awesome! What's the longevity of a dip coat?

You sprayed that Camaro all those times? Having it black already was a big help I bet! Pictures look good, hope it does not mess with the paint! Good Luck, it does look sharp!

Looks good!

I did my wheels and am happy with how it came out but the coating isn't very durable.

Also, they have a "dip dissolver" product and often a pressure washer will take it right off.

Actual product was under $400
  • 2x gallon frozen clear topcoat $140
2x gallon uv concentrate black $140
2x gallon VM&P thinner (to thin the black) $40
    30 grams pearl $40

I used a Wagner turbine sprayer that I also bought for other home painting projects. If I do it again I'll buy a different sprayer.

Then masking tape and other junk was probably another $30 or so. I did my pre-wash with regular car wash, then Dawn, then a spary bottle with diluted rubbing alcohol.

I have a couple of pretty bad runs due to a combination of poor lighting and my sprayer shooting uneven, plus my inexperience. I also didn't remove the spoiler so it's rough and thin underneath. I have a screw up on the hood because the black wasn't fully dry when I masked it off to do the pearl coat. I was rushing to get it done in my garage over a weekend.
Before this I've done some wheels and trim pieces. Those have held up fine for a few years with no maintenance.

I spot tested Meguairs hybrid ceramic spray wax and it seems to work good. So I will go back and apply that to the whole car. Other than that, just regular hand washing. Bird doo doo and other things might be problematic but my car is garage kept when not driven so hopefully I notice and wipe it off early.
Like any self-marketed, influencer based business, they sell their own line of care and washing products. But I searched through the plastidip subreddit and consensus was that spray waxes like Turtlewax Ice are just as good or better without paying the premium.
