Installed Manual Exhaust Cutouts!
I started a new thread because I know something like this might've been helpful when I was looking into this mod. I purchased 2 manual cutouts online from jegs. I found a local mechanic on craigslist who I've previously used to eliminate my 2 rear cats. I didn't want to spend a ton of money, and I've been reading a lot of problems with the electric cutouts so I decided to experiment. My car already has the gmpp exhaust muffler installed so I didn't want to do a muffler delete either.
The result was, I decided to place the cutouts in the rear slightly before the muffler. It was pretty quick to get them welded in. I didn't want it up by the headers so it was ridiculously loud. As a result, here is what it looks like! Overall, I am extremely happy with the end result! It starts up and sounds awesome.. There is more popping on decal, but it is not over the top annoying. It's got a mean growl at idle. There is slightly more drone than before, but the additional is barely noticeable. Plus it absolutely roars when you open it up I'd definitely recommend doing this if you're considering it. I get compliments all the time. I'm considering doing headers next, but the car already sounds ridiculously awesome so I'm in no hurry to do that!

Ah, an epiphany!
I now realize why I see some cars with exposed side pipes that have their exhaust ports with a cover bolted on. ...I never knew until now. |
