Belt help?

Well I was looking at my engine bay and saw that my belt is tearing. I have an slp 25% under drive pulley, and a billet tensioner pulley. I installed the tensioner pulley myself about 5 months maybe 6 months ago and I know my belt wasn't like that before. I have had my under drive pulley for about 3 years now. No issues. But the past month or so I've been noticing my car sounds weird at idle and now I know why. I am running the stock size belt and I haven't changed it since I got my UD pulley installed. I read that you're supposed to run a smaller belt, correct?

A under drive pulley yes will take a different than stock size as it will make the tensioner be farther out and may allow slip on your cars engine and your lucky its not throwing the belt. You should be able to find out the right belt from the pulley maker however my pulley a 25%underdrive is a fluidampr and in their instructions they say the wrong gates number for the belt but the right length...LOL at least last I read the instructions years ago, and mine is not 25% on the A/C just the electrical as the idle being higher its O.K.

BTW I have even heard of the SLP underdrives falling apart as its not top end over the years...also heard of stock also.

Normally a smaller pulley would definitely require a shorter belt. I had to shorten my belt by 0.5" when I went 9mm smaller on my supercharger pulley.

Your belt length is probably right since it ran okay for three years. Also the Dayco belt on your car is the same length as the Gates belt recommended on the SLP website. The belt is on the long side right now based on the indicator marks on the tensioner but it is missing a rib so it may have stretched.

The most likely reason is that you installed the belt off one rib on a pulley when you changed the tensioner pulley. Another possibility is that the belt has stretched over time and jumped a rib.

You also like other early years have the power steering pump so their belt advice should take into account that later years have electronic power steering not this size fits 2010-15 because the change came in 2012, and it appears your belts fraying a little...on the face and it might be from that tensioner... When I did my first engine I bought a cheap TSP underdrive and showed it to my tuner, then as we both agreed it looked cheap in construction with the original style like a BSC/BBC stock harmonic balancer relying on a rubber cushion for the vibration dampening I decided just to sell it and got good one later when I could afford it more rather than go too cheap as I read up on this forum about the failures over time back when the volume on here was a lot higher for members over the years. Good luck, I would call and ask them and tell them the specific year and use the belt length recommended for your year, but it does appear to be rubbing the front of the tensioner pulley .

Belts don't stretch. They may wear but they never stretch.
Your tires don't stretch and come loose, do they?

If you are missing a rib someone probably damaged it during the install.

Belts stretch and so do tires.

I bought that same billet tensioner. I had the belt walk off the front of the pulley twice. One time it shredded the second time with a new belt I caught it during an oil change, it had walked two ribs out. I put the OEM one on until I supercharged and didn't need it.

Really?? Damn, I might just put my stock one back on. I thought the billet tensioner was supposed to be stronger than the oem one? Going to put my stock on back on for now. Replacing my belts tomorrow.
